Vox is a user’s guide to the news produced by the beat reporters, subject-matter experts, and editors who know it best. We’re looking for a senior editor to make our policy stories sing. This is an important role in the Vox newsroom. We believe policy stories are critically important -- and interesting.
We need a senior editor who enjoys working with writers across beats, including health care, immigration, and economics. Vox cares deeply about explaining important, complex policy, but that does not mean boring. Our writers know their stuff. We need an editor to help them reach as broad an audience as possible through great editing. That means creative framing, sharp assigning and strong line editing that makes copy shine.
At Vox, editors collaborate. They brainstorm with colleagues around big stories in order to cover them from multiple angles. Top candidates for the policy editor position should be excited to work with other department editors, to add breadth and depth to our coverage of major news events. And they should be eager to team up with the social, visual, and video teams to experiment with new formats and platforms. Working closely with other editors and collaborating with our multimedia and visual storytellers should be considered integral parts of this role.
This is a great opportunity for a creative editor who is excited to explain the news and work with great reporters.

Demonstrated ability to assign stories that pop online
Demonstrated interest in explanatory journalism
