Vox.com is a user’s guide to the news produced by the beat reporters and subject-issue experts who know it best. We’re looking for a staff writer for our energy and environment section who can help us expand our coverage of policy and science with an eye to big ideas and global trends.
The ideal candidate is someone with interest and expertise in covering climate, environmental, and energy policy. That would mean looking not just at the fate of the Clean Power Plan and other EPA rules under Trump, but also international climate talks and countries' progress on meeting the Paris goals.
This is a high level writing job in the Vox.com newsroom and will involve a wide variety of short and long posts.
In this role, you'll:
Relentlessly cover climate, energy, and environmental policy in the age of Donald Trump
Join, drive, and shape the daily conversation around climate and energy news
Explain complex and intricate science and political dynamics in clear, straightforward language
The best candidates for this role will have:
An entrepreneurial spirit
At least three years of environmental or energy writing experience
Experience covering Congress, federal agencies, and building sources in Washington and in academia
Proven track-record building and relying on a strong source base
An interest in experimenting with new story formats
Passion for the Vox mission of explaining the news
Please submit a resume, a cover letter, and three clips (links in your cover letter, or in the same document as your cover letter). Please also include in your cover letter three ideas for climate and energy stories, and explain how you would cover them at Vox.
This is a full-time position based in our Washington, DC office.
