Climate change is the most important story in the world. It’s no longer a looming consequence in the far-off future, but rather a present challenge that’s forcing all of us to adapt. Wildlife and natural habitats are disappearing, driving a biodiversity crisis. Extreme weather events are changing how we live and reshaping cities and communities around the world. Global governments are finally agreeing to work together to reduce their carbon footprints, and many are allocating billions of their budgets to fund a green revolution. And a new generation that’s grown up confronting the visible consequences of climate change is more aware of the crisis and more personally invested in taking action than any other generation.
Vox Climate’s value proposition is to offer clarity and understanding about this crisis, and to empower our audience as we learn to live with, adapt to, and fight against climate change and its often devastating impacts. That’s why Vox is looking for a dynamic leader to oversee its climate coverage. This editor will manage the reporters covering climate change and its real-world impacts, climate policy, biodiversity, the green revolution and other efforts to adapt to climate change, and more.
The ideal candidate will be able to help elevate and amplify key ideas circulating in scientific circles; unpack dense, confusing debates; and ensure that some stories spark delight and awe. The climate editor will ensure Vox pieces meet a high standard, offering clarity and context or challenging preconceived notions. They must be comfortable assigning and helping execute everything from ambitious enterprise projects to spot news explainers that help readers understand chaotic news moments. They will work with a dedicated team, and also provide guidance for climate coverage across the newsroom.
This person should understand Vox’s explanatory mission, and be enthusiastic about defining the organization’s unique role in the climate space.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead and guide an ambitious team of reporters and editors
- Work with leadership to refine and implement a vision for Vox’s coverage, and be ultimately responsible for making sure the coverage meets a high threshold of excellence
- Ensure that the team is offering clarity on the most important policies, controversies, or news moments
- Help identify how to bring discipline and deliberation to story assignments
- Work with the audience team, audio, video, and other editors across the Vox newsroom to elevate the work across mediums
- Support the work of the writers and editors on the team

This job is remote.
