Why this role matters:

We are seeking a dedicated telecommunications/electronic communications services regulatory counsel to join our legal team and play a vital role in supporting our compliance activities.  This position will report to the Director- Legal, Telecom Regulatory Compliance and play a key role in global compliance activities related to telecommunications laws and messaging industry standards.

Where you will work:

Flex Worker - You will be required to work from the office at least one day per week and may be required to commute to the office for collaboration, customer meetings, and presentations up to 3 days a week.

What you will do:

Specific to telecommunications and electronic communications services (telecommunications), you will:

  • Monitoring, communicating, and adjusting to developments in global telecommunications frameworks as well as in relevant industry  standards and carrier requirements.
  • Participate in cross-functional groups that implement new compliance requirements into programs  
  • Monitor and report regarding the effectiveness of compliance programs
  • Research regulatory requirements and carrier/industry messaging standards and advise the business 
  • Work with colleagues in Legal and the business on how to build telecommunications regulatory compliance into products and services through proactive assessments of new products and services and corporate functions (e.g., Sales, Marketing, HR, Finance).
  • Support commercial negotiation teams by providing telecommunications regulatory advice and negotiating with resellers, suppliers, vendors and customers.
  • Identify strategic opportunities and communicate them to relevant business teams. 
  • Promote and maintain compliance awareness across Vonage and deliver effective, role-based privacy training programs.  
  • Manage consultants and outside counsel.

What you will bring:

Required

  • 3+ years of experience working in telecommunications regulatory roles.
  • Expert legal or regulatory skills in telecommunications in at least the UK and one other EMEA or APAC country and a willingness to learn about other countries.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems in a complex technology and business environment
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited university
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with a meticulous attention to details
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders, up to and including senior-level management..

  • Comfortable with ambiguity. Persistence to drive change over time.
  • Results oriented, proactive, responsible, pragmatic and ethical person with a passion for telecommunications regulatory work
  • Experience with communication platforms as a service (CPaaS) and APIs a plus.
