Position Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist to join our team at Vizgen. This individual will be responsible for building bioinformatics pipelines based on existing applications and also incorporating new tools. In addition, you will analyze data to address targeted biological questions. This role will also require working with the product development team to characterize the product performance data, also support the field application team to provide data analysis training and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in single-cell and/or spatial transcriptomic data analysis and pipeline implementation.
Responsibilities:
- Build spatial transcriptomic bioinformatic pipelines and evaluate novel data analysis tools/algorithms.
- Establish bioinformatics framework, version control, and unit testing towards production level analytic tools.
- Collect, organize, and analyze product performance metrics to validate product performance.
- Working closely with the application team to interpret the data in the context of biological question.
- Working closely with product development teams to evaluate the quality and consistency of product.
- Work closely with the wet lab team to evaluate data quality and identify ways the data can be improved computationally or experimentally.
- Document code and provide internal bioinformatics training to other teams.
- Provide timely and expert resolutions to escalated issues and questions for customers.
- Serve as an externally facing expert on Vizgen software, data, and bioinformatics products for lab service clients.
- Document and track analysis trends from emerging spatial transcriptomics demonstrations and publications.
- Consolidate and represent customer and partner feedback to communicate to the internal R&D teams to refine user experience and ensure Vizgen customers are able to easily perform the analysis that is needed for their research
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computational biology, mathematical biology, bioinformatics, biology or related computational field and 10+ years of related experience required.
- Master's degree in computational biology, mathematical biology, bioinformatics, biology or related computational field and 8+ years of related experience required.
- or PhD degree in computational biology, mathematical biology, bioinformatics, biology or related computational field and 4+ years of related experience highly preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of any required degree
- 4+ years of bioinformatics experience in the life sciences research industry highly preferred.
- Experience contributing to production bioinformatics pipelines.
- Experience in single-cell data analysis, algorithm development. Experience with spatial transcriptomic and microscope image processing is a plus.
- Extensive experience in Python, particularly data science libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Scikit etc is preferred.
- Extensive experience working in cloud computing environments.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Working knowledge of Git, Jira, Confluence is preferred.
