Virta Health is looking to add an Email Marketing Manager in order to segment, improve, and scale our patient acquisition initiatives. This role will be responsible for driving patient growth for our B2B2C and direct-to-patient businesses, specifically via email.  The position requires the ability to develop email creative & copy, build & implement campaigns, test continuously, analyze data, and rapidly iterate on learnings. This role will own our email strategy for all of patient acquisition, from strategy to copy to segmentation to implementation. You’ll also help us revamp our current email playbook and operations. We expect you to develop a sophisticated email automation scheme that is cutting-edge in healthcare and similar to the best direct to consumer brands.

This role requires significant cross-functional work, as you will have to interface with and lead projects across a variety of teams, including Design, Product, Customer Success, and Sales.   • Devise, write, deploy, test, and optimize email campaigns to drive patient acquisition from our target populations
  • Develop data-driven segmented drip email campaigns based on the individual patient journey
  • Create new email copy and creative that is patient-centric, empathetic, scientifically driven, and provocative
  • Run frequent A/B tests to improve our emails and learn more about our target audience
  • Analyze & report on email campaign metrics
  • Build the HTML and inline CSS of the email and troubleshoot technical issues related to email templates, list segmentation, and other aspects of execution
  • Implement email marketing best practices around coding, design, testing, scaling, and analytics in collaboration with our team of strategic marketers, product managers, content creators, and designers
  • Collaborate with our customers and the customer success team to ensure our email marketing is activating and engaging covered beneficiaries
  • Collaborate with marketing ops & digital growth managers to develop multi-touch attribution model and cross-channel strategies for patient acquisition
  • Own the email library and quarterly content calendar
  • Work cross-functionally with leaders on product, engineering, design and analytics to uncover and invest in new growth opportunities
  • Test, iterate, and improve upon our email to landing page experience and conversion
  • Own our Marketo instance and run frequent send score audits

90 Day Plan

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:

  • Take complete ownership of all of Virta’s patient acquisition email campaigns
  • Build scalable processes for the launch and management of email campaigns
  • Develop email strategies to improve activation rates and engage mid/late-stage adopters (patients) at later-stage customers.
  • Write, implement, A/B test, and report on multiple new email campaigns, with a particular focus on revamping our launch campaign
  • Improve email to landing page experience, including developing new email to landing page mechanics
  • Create new email benchmarks and KPIs, and then report out on progress to key internal stakeholders and Senior Management
  • Connect with interested and enrolled patients to develop a strong understanding of our target patient mindset and how to develop marketing strategies that fit their needs


  • 4+ years experience with email marketing, including hands-on experience writing and implementing, ideally with a focus in the DTC space
  • Experience in optimizing email marketing programs, in particular by decreasing email frequency while improving efficacy via data-drive segmentation
  • Strong working knowledge of email marketing tools (Marketo), from technical implementation to automation
  • Experience with audience segmentation and list management
  • Working knowledge of HTML and dynamic content logic such as AMPScript, VBScript or handlebars for email templating/personalization
  • Strong, consumer-centric, brand-sensitive writer with top-notch editing and proofreading skills
  • Significant experience with email A/B testing, strong analytical skills,  and the enthusiasm about data to deep-dive and frequently pull out key insights
  • Creative thinker with an eye for design
  • Strong knowledge of email marketing, CAN-SPAM, CASL, CCPA, GDPR and other best practices
  • Experience working with large databases and multiple fields for targeting and personalization
  • Experience with IP warming and addressing deliverability issues
  • Experience working on personalized email marketing campaigns for consumer products
  • Highly organized project-manager, extremely detail oriented, with a proven ability to run complex processes, navigate organizations, and lead meetings effectively and efficiently
  • Accountable, proactive, and thoughtful with demonstrated strategic problem-solving skills

  • Bonus points for:
    • Experience integrating email marketing strategy with paid marketing
    • Experience with advanced measurement and analytics (multi-touch attribution, media mix modeling, or similar)
