THE OPPORTUNITY

Based in San Francisco, VIR is looking for a VP of Financial Planning & Analysis to serve as primary business partner to the leadership team. You will lead a team to consolidate all of Vir’s financial and analyses. The position requires analytics, and cross functional collaboration skills and a deep understanding of pharmaceutical drug development.

The position is located at our San Francisco headquarters with a minimum expectation of 4 days per week in person at the office.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead the FP&A organization to develop short and long-term financial targets and plans that allocate capital to the highest value opportunities, ensure long-term sustainability, and drive appropriate financial discipline across the organization
  • Lead and develop the Company’s financial planning processes (budget, forecast and LRP), monitor performance against plans, recommend business actions to meet targets and objectives
  • Partner and collaborate with key business partners to establish a clear understanding of key business drivers, upcoming decisions and inflection points
  • Act as an embedded business partner to facilitate business decisions through trusted financial analysis
  • Serve as key finance business partner with executive leaders and be the subject matter expert on clinical costs, manufacturing costs, partnership economics, and key value drivers
  • Assess and improve financial analytics and reporting, including quarterly and annual reporting needs, external, internal, collaboration, or government / non-profit partnership
  • Oversee collaboration partnership financials, including review of quarter-end activities, external funding application and reporting, as well as budget and reporting related to collaboration partners
  • Own the Company’s internal valuation model
  • Lead a team of FP&A professionals who perform routine and ad hoc valuation and financial analysis, including analyses supporting portfolio investment decisions and asset NPV modeling supporting strategic decisions and BD needs
  • Educate the organization about financial matters; establish routine (monthly / quarterly / annually) financial reviews to improve financial performance and stimulate action
  • Recruit, coach, mentor and retain the FP&A team
  • Support evaluation, design, implementation, and maintenance of financial systems and system upgrades as necessary
  • Proactively gather, analyze, prepare, and ensure awareness and understanding of important financial needs or drivers
  • Design, recommend and implement enhancement to existing processes and reporting

 

 WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU BRING 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in accounting, finance, or related fields with 15+ years of experience in finance related roles
  • MBA or equivalent strongly preferred
  • Experience with biotech or pharmaceutical drug development processes and associated financial considerations a must
  • Valuation experience and expertise
  • Excel (can build and maintain complex spreadsheets) power user
  • Experience with NetSuite, Adaptive Insights, SAP or similar systems
  • Knowledge of US GAAP accounting and SOX requirements
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Track record of effectively partnering across the organization with a collaborative style working across internal and external teams a must

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE OFFER

The expected salary range for this position is $300,000 to $340,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.

Vir’s compensation and benefits are aligned with the current market and commensurate with the person’s experience and qualifications. All full-time employees receive a package that includes: compensation, bonus and equity as well as many other Vir benefits and perks such as: health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance benefits, non-accrual paid time off, company shut down for holidays, commuter benefits, child care reimbursement, education reimbursement, 401K match and lunch each day in the office.
