Lead Engineer, Robot Development Kit

Viam's products are built by engineers, for engineers. We want to build a platform we would want to use ourselves. As a Robotics Engineering Lead, you will be leading the production of our Robot Development Kit which is responsible for all robot controls. The team owns low to high level implementations of hardware and software components and integrates higher level controls logic to make operations of such components easier and reliable.
You'll be:
- Leading a team of engineers
- Building software, primarily in Golang, to make robotics more accessible
- Working on the first set of products which will define the nature of our platform
- Building and testing software for a variety of robotic components such as motors, sensors, arms, and gantries
- Laying the foundation of our open source libraries
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience leading engineering teams
- Has a degree in software engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or robotics engineering
- Extensive software engineering experience using languages, such as C/C++, Golang, Java, or Python.
- Has interest in creating software for roboticists around the world
- Has an affinity to solve sophisticated problems with novel and practical solutions
- Wants to make our users lives easier through making their work more efficient
- Is excited to approach new technologies and open-ended problems
- Believes in high-quality, tested, and well documented code
