About the opportunity:

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Director of Engineering to lead and inspire our talented engineering team. You will be responsible for defining the technical vision and roadmap, overseeing the development and delivery of high-quality software products, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence within the engineering organization.You'll work alongside builders who have helped to shape the success of companies such as Google, Okta, AWS and more. This is a key leadership role within the Engineering organization.

You will:

As a Director of Engineering, you will wear many hats, but core responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as the engineering leader for engineering deliverables
    • Create detailed engineering execution plans, cadence and processes for engineering team members to use and abide by
    • Propose and oversee resources, dependencies and timelines for engineering projects
    • Execute on engineering processes and plan, iterate on processes based on teams’ feedback, ensure customer deliverables are on time
    • Drive the team to strive for the best quality for completed projects
    • Drive the Engineering team to have end-to-end ownership of their deliverables, including development, testing, deployment and support
    • Cultivate a high-pace and resilient engineering culture for continuous innovations
  • Cross-team collaboration
    • Work with product managers to note down the product requirements and customers’ use cases, and work as a team for prioritization and adjustments of the deliverables if needed
    • Clear engineering communications on key engineering fronts - priority, engineering achievements, alignment with leadership team
    • Communicate and collaborate with other managers and stakeholders
  • Hiring and Retaining Talent
    • Have a process to hire, onboard, grow and retain engineering talent
    • Answer questions and address issues brought forth by the engineering team members
    • Mentor and challenge team members for better productivity 
    • Build plans for engineering resources to deliver product roadmap items

You have: 

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with 4+ years in a leadership role. Should have experience building enterprise SaaS products.
    • Startup experiences that scale a team from under 20 to 40+
    • Experience building, delivering and managing support for SaaS products that stream large amounts of data
    • Experience building and delivering services in AWS and/or on Kubernetes
    • Experience leading and managing a fully distributed team
    • Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals and modern software delivery process
    • Knowledge of Agile development, including Scrum management, stories, defect tracking & management, product backlog, JIRA and MVP
    • Excellent interpersonal and technical communication skills 
    • Track record for being detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to self-motivate and follow-through on projects 
    • Relentlessly high standards (never satisfied with the status quo) 
    • Able to dive deep, never out of touch with the details of the business and technology
    • Lead and manage multiple software engineering teams, fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and inclusive work environment.
    • Organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes, and the entire engineering team on track
    • Experience working with product, design, business and leadership in setting the long term strategic direction for team and product
    • Ability to wear multiple hats in a fast-paced environment
    • Hands-on, “can do” attitude and a bias for action
    • Low ego and high intellectual curiosity
  • Other / Nice-to-Have Skills:
    • Spearhead various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes
    • Prepare and deliver various engineering-related presentations, both internally and externally

For this position, the reasonably expected pay range can be discussed with your recruiter for the level at which this job has been scoped. Your base pay will depend on several factors, including your experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for equity and a competitive benefits package.
