Position Summary
Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts. May also fabricate and modify parts applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. Maintain safe, organized and clean work environment. Responsible for set up, inspection, first part buy, and other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Including and but not limited to:
- Ability to recognize and respond to issues that need corrected in a timely and efficient manner.

- Set up and operate variety of machine tools
- Properly operate hand or power tools as required

- Read and interpret blueprints
- Read and interpret customer specifications
- Read and interpret technical drawings
- Monitor production machinery/equipment operation to detect problems, and report to the lead or supervisor in the area.
- Examine products or work to verify conformance to specifications
- Quickly responds to all situations that could cause damage to equipment, product or workers without authorization.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
- Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts.

Education and Experience:
- Knowledge of principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of product.
- Must possess knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, and preventative maintenance.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and their applications.
- Must have knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production.
- Must be able to interpret blue prints and specifications.
- 7 years conventional machining experience or certification from an accredited organization in the area of responsibility and 5 years’ experience.

- The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
