General Summary
Develop part programs, part holding designs, AS9102 First Article set up, program operation instructions and best practice guidelines for various Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) systems based on customer specifications. Monitor and measure quality on close tolerance aerospace machined, metal parts and components in a production environment. Inspectors are responsible in-process, 1st part, and final dimensional inspection of parts and assemblies. Train and mentor inspection personnel on equipment setup and operation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop software inspection programs which are intended for repeated use to inspect geometrically defined components and associated fixturing.
- Work directly with Manufacturing Engineer/Quality Engineer resources to determine inspection criteria as well as best practice inspection techniques
- Operate measurement equipment to perform CMM trials on newly developed part programs and prepare them for production use readiness
- Run CMM programs and perform inspection duties in a production environment.
- Writing of non-conformance rejection tags.
- Able to prove out and measure new machine fixtures and tooling for approval or required changes.
- Approves part specifications and dimensions using hard layout methodologies.
- Ability to document work instructions and process documentation.
- Accurately manage CMM programs and other inspection documentation, using master programs and documents.
- Develop custom inspection data reports based on specific customer or engineering requests, to include the set up of AS9102 First Articles.
- Interfaces directly with the Manufacturing Engineer/Quality Engineer or manufacturing personnel to accurately explain measurement data obtained from the inspection process in order to provide clear assessment of inspection result
- Train inspection personnel on correct usage of CMM equipment, GD&T interpretation, part programs, and maintenance
- Maintain compliance with program development, change management, and validation procedures and best practices.
Minimum qualifications:
- Understands Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance concepts (of ASME Y14.5:2009 & ISO 1101:2012) and is able to appropriately apply the techniques to the inspection process
- Proficient in general computer concepts and has experience using Microsoft Windows based products
- Knowledge and ability to program and operate CMM’s (Coordinate Measuring Machines) using PC-DMIS or Modus CMM software
- Able to read, understand, and interprets blueprints and other technical documentation
- Strong mathematical skills and experience with solving simple trigonometry based formulas
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, CNC equipment, complex machined aerospace parts, quality standards and rework processes
- Must have problem solving skills and work well under quick turnaround production demands
- Preferred candidates will have at least 10 years of advanced dimensional inspection experience in the aerospace industry.
