The Site Reliability Engineer IV (SRE-Site Reliability Engineer) is an operations specialist with software development experience, who works closely with relevant teams from the design phase of an application, product, or supporting infrastructure, through initial deployment, and subsequent maintenance, identifying and resolving production issues. The SRE ensures that our complex, internet-scale systems are reliable, monitored, automated and scalable. The SRE IV has an excellent understanding of operating systems, networking systems or databases, and their configurations, and is able to quickly navigate command line interface(s) to inspect or configure the same. The SRE IV has advanced software development experience and is able to leverage that experience to automate complex tasks. Automation is the foundation of this position.
Provides oversight, technical direction, mentorship and expertise to other technical members of the project and support teams, leading to solution delivery that is on time, on budget, meets business needs and provides superior system performance
Leverages industry best practices to assess, design, test, deploy and support new and existing internet based products and applications, or supporting infrastructure
Works with business and technology partners to analyze business requirements then document and manage the design or redesign of complex systems
Designs and develops software, tools, and/or routines to replace daily manual tasks
Serves as a primary point responsible for the overall health, security, capacity and performance of customer facing applications, or supporting infrastructure
Responds accordingly to Operations incidents and customer issues
Proactively identifies enhancements to improve performance, reliability and/or scalability
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
8+ years of experience developing and operating mission-critical systems
3+ years hands-on experience with OpenStack in an SRE role
Excellent understanding of Linux configuration and administration
Strong automation experience. Not just developing automation, but knowing why we automate and what to automate
Strong understanding of infrastructure-as-code
Strong written and verbal communication skills – able to clearly and succinctly describe complex issues
Familiarity with networking protocols and systems
