We’re building a next-gen online shopping platform using cutting-edge technologies like Serverless and React. We have a cloud-native architecture, hosted fully on AWS. We practice Continuous Delivery and deploy code to production several times a day behind feature flags. In addition to our consumer-facing platform, we also build and deploy software solutions for our internal business users to streamline their workflows. We like to build flexible capabilities that empower our internal users to self-serve and operate the business with complete visibility and minimal dependence on technologists.

Given how early-stage our company is, you would get to be part of the core team of technologists who are responsible for shaping our product direction, design, architecture and team culture. You’ll be working on greenfield projects and laying the foundations for a stack that will support our projected fast-paced business growth.

About this role:  

We’re seeking a Data Engineer who specializes in data pipelines, analytics databases & query engines, data processing and distributed systems. You will work in the Marketing Tech Team, which is responsible for Data Transport, Distributed Computing, Analytics and Data Science within Technology at Verishop. Your success in this role will require collaborating closely with teammates and project stakeholders in feature design, sprint planning, task execution, code review and feature deployment.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with our Data Infrastructure, including:
    • Data warehouse (Snowflake)
    • Data management platform (Looker)
    • Distributed storage (S3)
    • Pipeline orchestration (Apache Airflow)
    • Distributed messaging and streaming (Kinesis)
    • Cluster computing resources (Apache Spark on EMR)
  • Integrate with our internal and vendor systems to collect and ingest data into our central data warehouse
  • Collaborate with analysts to clean, structure and deliver data on our data management platform
  • Develop and maintain data processing pipelines
  • Develop and maintain data applications on cluster computing and streaming engines
  • Collaborate with data scientists to enhance our software with machine learning algorithms and predictive models 

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 + years of previous relevant experience 
  • Competence in a general-purpose programming language, such as Python, Ruby, Java, Scala or ES6 JavaScript.
  • Proficiency in SQL
  • Data modelling experience with relational databases like MySQL or Postgres
  • Knowledge of core concepts, principles and techniques in data engineering
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Experience using parts of our data infrastructure is a big plus.
