Venture Global LNG (“Venture Global”) is a long-term, low-cost provider of American-produced liquefied natural gas. The company’s two Louisiana-based export projects service the global demand for North American natural gas and support the long-term development of clean and reliable North American energy supplies. Using reliable, proven technology in an innovative plant design configuration, Venture Global’s modular, mid-scale plant design will replace traditional designs as it allows for the same efficiency and operational reliability at significantly lower capital cost.
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team in the Houston Office. This role will be instrumental in developing detailed electrical designs for Venture Global’s cutting-edge energy projects. The Principal Electrical Engineer will report directly to the Electrical Engineering Manager and work collaboratively with engineers and designers to deliver high-quality solutions for High Voltage (HV), Medium Voltage (MV), Low Voltage (LV), and Protection Systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in electrical engineering, providing technical leadership in HV, MV, and LV systems, motors, transformers, switchgear, protection schemes, and power system analysis.
- Lead electrical engineering and design efforts, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to project schedules.
- Oversee the integrity and technical execution of electrical engineering work in compliance with industry standards, guidelines, and codes (IEEE, NEC, API, etc.).
- Ensure all designs prioritize safety, reliability, and efficiency in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate electrical systems with broader engineering functions.
- Provide technical support to Maintenance & Operations teams to maintain plant equipment operability.
- Utilize electrical engineering software such as ETAP, PSCAD, SPL, and CDEGS for design, analysis, and validation.
- Develop electrical distribution systems, specify equipment, configure power systems, and manage interfaces.
- Perform and review power system studies, protective relay settings, and grounding designs.
- Act as a mentor and technical resource for junior engineers and designers.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred), preferably with a focus on Power Systems.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
Experience:
- 15+ years of experience in electrical engineering within an industrial setting (engineering or operations).
- Oil & Gas industry experience is required, with a preference for LNG applications. Experience in petrochemical, NGL, cryogenic natural gas processing, or other hydrocarbon processing may be considered.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and electrical engineering software (ETAP, PSCAD, SPL, CDEGS).
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, equipment selection, protective relays, and power system configuration.
- Experience conducting power system studies, protective device settings, and grounding designs.
