The Micro-Content Producer (MCP) is a hybrid role that bridges the worlds of creative, strategy, and community management. MCPs have a finger on the pulse of what’s happening in the world, the strategic instinct to determine if and how what’s happening is relevant to a brand and its audiences, and the ability to act as the voice of the brand across social platforms. The MCP reports to the Account Strategy leads, but collaborates closely with the Creative and Media teams.
What’s expected of an MCP:
Listen to cultural “signals” across social media, determine what is relevant, and conceive of how it translates to social content for a brand
Develop content calendars, work with a creative team to create content, and post content regularly to social platforms
Respond to community comments and questions based on brand guardrails and a brand voice
Proactively search for mentions, comments, and trends that might be relevant to the brands and communities they manage
Stay in tune with post performance based on both community engagement and paid media metrics, and using that information to determine whether content is a success
Provide regular updates and micro-briefs to the larger team on how we might take advantage of timely signals
Engage proactively with users on social media both in and outside of a brand’s community to connect on a 1:1 level and listen for signals
To be a practitioner and understand the nuances of different platforms (i.e., best practices, user behavior, and new opportunities.)
An awesome MCP is…
Extremely comfortable writing copy and comments in a brand’s voice
Familiar with native social platform analytics tools
Able to navigate visual creation tools like Canva or Photoshop when needed (or willing to learn)
Naturally curious, inquisitive, and wants to learn everything possible about their brand’s audiences
Proactive—they’re quick to make educated assumptions and develop new hypotheses for the team
Cognizant that a single comment can be just important as a handful of likes
Interested in a diverse range of topics (i.e., Food, fashion, movies, television, music, tech, etc.)
