Job Description

We are seeking a computational geneticist with expertise using genetics and multi-omics data to further the understanding of disease mechanisms. The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in human genetics, statistics and computational biology, with experience analyzing population-scale functional genomics datasets. The candidate will be part of a growing team of computational geneticists including bioinformaticians, statistical geneticists and population geneticists. Responsibilities

  • Develop pipelines to process, assess quality control and analyze multi-omics data, including transcriptomic, metabolomic, proteomic, and epigenetic raw data.
  • Design and execute statistical analysis plans to integrate genetic and omics data that include transcriptomic, metabolomic, proteomic and epigenetic quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping.
  • Use publicly available functional genomics resources to support internal research efforts and provide mechanistic insights into drug targets.
  • Collaborate with teams of software engineers and bioinformaticians to streamline and automate analyses to the company’s computational pipelines.
  • Interface with the early drug discovery team in translating genetic findings into therapeutic hypotheses that can inform functional validation efforts.
  • Keep up-to-date on scientific literature and share relevant advances with the team.
  • Disseminate results with the broader scientific community through presentations and publications.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in statistical genetics, functional genomics, computational biology, or related field or masters degree with 3+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong programming skills including proficiency in R, Python, or bash shell scripting is preferred.
  • Experience using high performance computing or cloud computing environments is preferred.
  • One or more of the following skill sets:
    • Incorporating public genetics and multi-omics resources such as UCSC Genome Browser, Open Targets, GTEx, Roadmap, ENCODE, Human Protein/Cell Atlas into workflows.
    • Familiarity with commonly used software packages used for RNA-seq data processing and functional genomics, including featureCounts, RSEM, RNA-SeQC, STAR, fastQTL, PEER.
    • Expertise in statistical causal inference methods such as Mendelian randomization, finemapping or colocalization.
    • Experience translating genetics and multi-omics findings into therapeutic hypotheses.
  • Publication record in the field of genetics or functional genomics a plus.
  • Independent, creative, detail-orientated, critical thinker and agile learner.
