About the Opportunity

We are looking to add a passionate community consultant to our team in Courtenay! Come join a diverse, hard-working and fun team working to find solutions to complex issues facing communities.

As a community consultant, you will work on complex and exiting projects that make a tangible difference in communities and towards global climate change. As a team we work together to support the communities to find the best fit solution to realize their clean energy and climate change priorities.

You will get to contribute to:

  • Viability assessments of clean energy technologies (e.g., solar photovoltaics (PV), wind, hydropower, biomass, and geo-exchange)
  • Prepare climate lens mitigation assessments
  • Research and analyze data to prepare energy load forecast models
  • Build financial models to advise project decisions
  • Facilitate in-person and digital communications and engagement with Indigenous communities, local governments, utilities, and community organizations
  • Provide accurate and timely input on technical reports, plans, studies, presentations and procurement documents
  • Prepare proposals and grant funding applications

The role will primarily focus on clean energy and climate change work. However, at times needs surface from the communities we serve that are outside of this core practice. The successful candidate will work with our teams to support these needs as they arise.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (science/applied science) or master’s level specialization with a focus on clean energy and climate change with minimum 2 years of professional experience. The following attributes would help you thrive:

  • Accountability – you don’t pretend to have all the answers and you take personal responsibility for seeing your efforts through. You aren’t afraid to ask questions and have a high say-do ratio, seek to understand the perspectives of others and see the value in active listening and empathy.
  • Care – you care deeply about the health and well-being of all living things and the communities they inhabit.
  • Energy and Adaptability – balance requests from multiple sources, and work within timelines, open to finding diverse and unexpected solutions to problems and challenges. You fuel creativity and excitement in teams.
  • Creative Collaborator – you approach communication, perspective taking and facilitation to build relationships and foster meaningful connections.
  • Data Driven – taking complex data, developing spreadsheets and using software programs for modelling and forecasting to help build understanding and inform decision-making gets you excited.
