The opportunity 

Urban Sports Group is looking for an experienced, energetic and inspirational leader to join the executive leadership team as Chief Product & Technology Officer. Reporting into the CEO and Co-Founder, the CPTO is responsible for owning, driving and executing Urban Sports product- and technology vision and strategy. You will lead the entire product development department including product, design/UX, engineering and product analytics.

The team is structured into tribes and cross-functional squads working with agile and lean methodologies. Currently, the department consists of around 80 people located in different locations with Berlin, Amsterdam and Cologne being the main development hubs.

Your responsibilities 

  • Create and own the product strategy and roadmap, driven by a deep understanding of our members and customers and in alignment with our vision and business objectives
  • Develop and execute a long-term technology/architecture vision and strategy
  • Ensure successful integration of all platforms following past and future acquisitions
  • Scale, lead and enable a strong product development team across multiple locations to execute our product strategy through setting objectives, coaching, mentoring, hiring and retaining top talent
  • Envision, lead and drive an industry-transforming product across B2C, B2B and B2B2C, collaborating with teams across the organization to build best in class user experiences and world-class products
  • Plant and foster a strong, data informed product and innovation culture throughout the organization
  • Consistently identify new innovation and growth levers to deepen and extend our value to users as well as to enable marketplace and international expansion
  • Be a center point for stakeholder collaboration and alignment across the organization resulting in joint prioritization, focus and fast iterative learning
  • Support fundraising, due diligence and M&A activities

What you need to succeed 

  •  Leadership experience with a high-growth international scale-up that has been involved with M&A activity, ideally as a CTO, CPO or CPTO
  • 12+ years of product development and management experience building internet based consumer applications; ideally within a two-sided Marketplace or B2B2C SaaS environment
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in managing managers
  • Hands-on experience as a product manager and/or engineering lead
  • Obsessed about the customer and the user experience and the desire to solve real customer problems
  • Strong understanding of product discovery and expert on modern product development processes
  • Proven quantitative and qualitative skills and deep data knowledge
  • Proven experience in stakeholder management and internal evangelism
  • Ability to attract, motivate, and hire a top level product team
  • Ability to understand and apply technology trends to current context
  • Experience with privacy, compliance/GDPR
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to explain complex problems and technology in simple terms to non-expert audiences
  • Collaborative, empowering but decisive, whether it's architecture choices, product priorities or internal disputes
  • Demonstrated history of having made cultural choices that positively impact both, delivery capabilities and employee engagement
