The Strategic Analytics team is looking for a Senior Strategy Analyst to identify the core drivers of business performance and develop winning strategies to grow our marketplace. This role is critical to deepening our understanding of platform dynamics and their business impact, and this individual will drive insights and partner cross functionally with product management, user research, marketing, and finance teams to refine and reshape Upwork’s corporate strategy.

As a critical member of the Strategic Analytics team, you’ll use your critical thinking, business sense, and analytical expertise to establish and evangelize a common understanding of the business and what drives Upwork’s growth. You’ll develop frameworks, tools, and strategies that empower partner teams to deliver improved business outcomes, and you’ll own the research and delivery of analytics initiatives with broad relevance across Upwork.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Build frameworks for understanding platform dynamics and educate company leaders on how we can enhance business performance.

  • Partner with User Research, Marketing Insights, Product, Marketing, Sales and more to build a holistic understanding of business challenges and opportunities.

  • Deliver analytical insights that drive changes in company strategy using SQL, Looker, Python, R and/or other scripting and statistical tools. 

  • Define customer segments to enable more targeted strategies and interventions by functional partners.

  • Present insights and recommendations in key meetings and business reviews with senior leaders across Upwork.

  • Perform deep dive analysis to identify blockers for our business as well as top opportunities for achieving our strategic goals. 

What it takes to catch our eye:

  • Ability to drive analytics projects in a fast-paced environment and work cross-functionally to deliver results.

  • Passion for developing strategic frameworks and thinking critically with data.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex findings for senior audiences.

  • Strong SQL skills.

  • Proficiency in one or multiple BI tools such as Looker or Tableau.

  • Proficiency in Python or R is a plus. 

  • Previous experience in strategy consulting and/or a marketplace or ecommerce business is a plus.

The annual base salary range for this position in California and Washington is displayed below. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salary for this position in California and Washington, and individual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, this position is eligible for the annual bonus plan or sales incentive plan and eligibility to participate in our long term equity incentive program.
