Are you an Accountant who enjoys working with super smart team members across the company and diving into the details to understand how a business really operates? If yes, then you might just be the Senior Accountant that we’re looking for to join our team!

As one of the fastest-growing tech companies and the leader in revolutionizing how Americans move from one home to another, the Updater team gets pretty busy. Our user base is growing like crazy, and we need a few extra hands on deck to keep our users happy!

We’re looking for an extremely organized, self-motivated, and driven individual who genuinely loves working as part of a team. Our ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and communication skills, an interest in learning the ins and outs of the business, and the ability to manage a diverse workload in a fast-paced environment. If you place emphasis on accuracy and love thinking outside of the box, then this is the role for you.

A typical day will include assisting with the daily operations and strategic objectives of the company’s accounting team. You will work closely with the Controller, CFO, and senior Accounting and Finance staff, as well as many other personnel at Updater to ensure timely and accurate financial statements and reporting. This position will at times interface with operational managers and executives and will report directly to the Accounting Manager.

About the Role

  • Participate in monthly financial close processes, focusing on revenue and cost of sales, ensuring accurate and timely results
  • Assist in designing and documenting policies, procedures, and internal controls related to revenue and cost of sales, including streamlining current processes
  • Work cross-functionally with revenue operations and account teams to understand monthly performance and explain financial trends
  • Ad hoc reporting and projects, such as integrating newly acquired companies and researching the related accounting impact (e.g., ASC 606)

About You

  • Empathy: you strive to put yourself in another person’s shoes and start to think about the problem needing to be solved from their perspective
  • Humility: you have an opinion, but aren’t afraid to be proven wrong, and are open to suggestions on what tool or technique is best to most efficiently solve a problem
  • Strong Communication: you communicate complex ideas in simple, easy-to-understand language and build trust with stakeholders
  • Comfort with Ambiguity: you’re used to being asked open-ended questions and whittling them down to questions that can be answered by hard data
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent required
  • 3+ years public accounting and/or industry accounting experience, CPA preferred
  • Knowledge of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), including working knowledge of ASC 606
  • Hands-on experience with accounting systems such as Intacct, NetSuite, SAP, etc.
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills; advanced Microsoft Excel required
  • Working Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) internal control knowledge a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willing to take ownership and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be resourceful and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Detail-oriented with strong critical thinking and proactive problem-solving skills

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor required by law to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. Your answer will be maintained confidentially and not be seen by selecting officials or anyone else involved in making personnel decisions.
