Your Mission

As a Director of Mortgage Originations, your mission is to lead our mortgage team as they work to master processes and procedures, put SLAs and disciplines in place to meet production goals, while fully complying with all mortgage laws and regulations. You will also be responsible for various innovation initiatives related to improving the delivery of the products to our customers and removing the friction in the processes. 

Within 1 month, you’ll:

  • Learn about our current equity sharing agreement as well as the new mortgage product initiative
  • Familiarize yourself with Unison, our origination and operations processes and procedures
  • Establish relationships with key business partners 
  • Have MLO licensing education requirements completed

Within 3 months, you’ll:

  • Have established daily performance benchmarks for all roles, routine coaching disciplines, and mastery of current products by all team members
  • Lead initiatives that build an effective culture of compliance and quality
  • Identified process gaps and have cultivated plans in place to rectify within a reasonable timeframe
  • Partner with leadership to develop and monitor departmental success measures (KPI’s) that help drive performance to established goals with a focus on regulatory compliance 

Within 6 months, you’ll:

  • Add additional team members, supervise/lead training and mentoring as they learn new skills and acclimate to Unison and our mortgage product
  • Ensure the full compliance of mortgage regulations and underwriting guidelines through the establishment of a second line of defense regulatory compliance
  • Established routines that drive the efficiency and accuracy of the overall department to meet and exceed funding goals

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to lead leaders as they mentor loan officers to consistently meet or exceed funding goals
  • Experience with variable compensation structure for LMO team with base vs. commission considerations 
  • Monitor phone calls and NPS results for coaching opportunities and trends
  • Comfortable explaining and teaching Loan Estimates (LE’s), Closing Disclosures (CD’s) and mortgage documentation with newer loan officers and customers
  • Handle customer escalations and follow up on complaints and recommend resolution
  • Log customer complaints and follow through with resolution
  • Perform routine process reviews, looking for additional efficiencies that help achieve goals and ensure full compliance with the applicable mortgage laws, regulations, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Conduct periodic reviews and provide feedback regarding existing systems and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and compliance
  • Monitor and schedule annual continuing education for yourself and the team to ensure completion prior to the deadline while balancing business need
  • Conduct periodic performance reviews providing feedback and suggestions, and make merit based recommendations raises and bonus 

About You

You are a seasoned mortgage specialist experienced in scaling the production and shaping the origination process of the non conforming mortgages such as closed end second mortgages. You are creative and thrive in complex and uncertain environments and are ready to innovate the home financing space. You exemplify our values, have a drive to succeed, and your experience includes:

  • Mortgage loan originator license (MLO) in one or more states and at least 3 years of direct mortgage sales experience
  • 8+ years of mortgage sales leadership experience, showing increasing responsibilities
  • Experience leading teams in a performance and matrix oriented environment with proven compliance and regulatory excellence
  • Working knowledge of variable compensation strategies that reward performance and balance the needs of our customers
  • Expert knowledge of mortgage industry regulations, investor guidelines, and compliance requirements
  • Vast customer experience background and ability to resolve complex direct consumer situations 
  • You seek out and efficiently resolve problems throughout the application process through closing, with a bias towards action for our customers and investors 
  • Team-oriented work ethic, strong interpersonal skills, ability to quickly build relationships and work well across teams

Bonus:

  • AMP (Accredited Mortgage Professional) or CMB (Certified Mortgage Banker) designation
  • Experience leading leaders of diverse and dynamic teams in high volume/high product complexity environments
