Position Summary:

- Using clinical and scientific expertise and leveraging strategic relationships, engages with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and other stakeholders to determine research and clinical interests, uncover KOL insights on existing or emerging science with the potential to impact patient care, and to increase KOL engagement with Ultragenyx’s rare disease programs to improve patient outcomes.
- Field-based and requires professionals with a strong clinical and/or scientific background to interact with KOLs and centers of excellence. Supports the company’s products in development and marketed brands as their primary responsibility. Partners closely with cross-functional colleagues to support our clinical development programs, stakeholder engagement plans and overall medical strategy.
- Generates actionable stakeholder insights to guide medical strategy development and lay the foundation for an impactful scientific plan.
Demonstrates advanced technical MSL skills and advanced scientific expertise in rare disease is preferred.
- Gather medical and clinical insights that contribute to enhancement of Ultragenyx’s key medical positions, plans, future research and development efforts; and proactively identifies unmet needs. Creates materials such as reports, utilizes CRM, and has required proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Work Model:
Field: Officially documented as working as a member of the Ultragenyx field team, generally interacting with third parties on behalf of Ultragenyx.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and continuously maintain the highest scientific and medical expertise with all diseases and products and be acknowledged internally and externally as an expert in these areas
- In coordination with direct manager and country collaborators, develop and implement a local medical affairs plan and strategy, to support best clinical practice and the overall country objectives
- Analyze local environment to identify and prioritize KOLs and referral patterns as well as gaps in infrastructure for patient care and develop strategies to address the unmet medical need in patient diagnosis and care provision
- In cooperation with global Clinical Operations, identify potential local investigators; provide input into trial design from a local perspective. Support local execution and facilitate reporting of Disease Monitoring programs and clinical trials
- When requested, represents Ultragenyx at scientific and medical forums, including medical education forums, scientific roundtables, congresses, and symposia
- Provide medical leadership, insight and strategy to all company activities, collaborating across functions, including ensuring the highest level of medical education for all company employees to maximize patient outcomes
- Provide support for the development, review and approval of presentation materials for scientific meetings, symposia and other Medical Education activities
Requirements:
- MD, PhD, and/or PharmD with pharmaceutical industry experience required (3+ years minimum as MSL
- Relevant and significant experience in the pharmaceutical or the biotech industry (or experience with biological product)
- Background / experience in metabolic diseases, pediatrics or genetic diseases preferred
- Understanding of GCP (Good Clinical Practice) standards
- Good analytical skills as applied to medical, scientific and technical information
- Demonstrated ability to accurately and effectively evaluate medical/scientific literature and develop effective medical strategies and communication strategies
- Fluent written and spoken Spanish and English
- Travel: approximate 60% #LI-CK1 #LI-Remote
