We are looking for a highly motivated Senior EH&S Specialist  to join our team!  

You are a driven environmental, health and safety professional, with in-depth knowledge of state, federal and international environmental health and safety regulations.  You will be given the opportunity to implement industry best practices and serve as the subject matter expert on EH&S matters. As such, you will work closely with internal departments, external agencies, and stakeholders to implement safety process, procedures or measures to mitigate risks and promote safe working environments.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Develop, implement and maintain environmental, health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with all relevant regulations, including but not limited to OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA
  • Develop and implement EH&S training strategies and conduct trainings
  • Assist with management of product and process-related chemical elements
    •  Facilitate a Safety Committee and participate in customer feedback sessions as they relate to the installation, maintenance, and safe operations of our products (i.e. chemicals and wastewater)
  • Assess potential workplace hazards/risks, including general employee safety, and work with Safety Committee to develop strategies and implement safety measures to mitigate them
  • Own EH&S related documentation (e.g., hazardous waste manifest and profiles, MSDS, SDS), handling procedures, storage/ recycling, and disposal of biohazardous, and hazardous wastes
  • Ensure manifesting, packaging, labeling, and loading of all medical, biohazardous, and hazardous waste is accurate and adheres to state and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations
  • Assist in the development and implementation of all company operations concerning the fire, emergency, safety, and environmental programs
  • Own and maintain the inventory and storage of hazardous materials in accordance with appropriate regulations, policies, practices, and procedures including applicable reports
  • Maintain accurate data for Chemical Inventory in the buildings and the maintenance of Material Safety Data Sheet online library
    • Oversee the storage of hazardous waste and materials in accordance with appropriate regulations, policies, practices, and procedures
  • Provide training on EH&S programs (e.g., Powered Industrial Trucks (Forklifts), Hazardous Waste Disposal, product wastewater monitoring, new hire orientation and employee safety training, etc.)
  • Ensure company compliance and appropriate reporting of hazardous materials inventory to outside agencies
  • Oversee and coordinate company or consultant crew’s activities during an incident response and clean-up
  • Serve as the liaison between company and relevant government agencies
  • Promote a safe working environment for employees, monitor for safe working practices and manage Illness and Injury Prevention Plan and Workplace Violence Prevention Plan
  • Manage incident (and near-miss) investigations, identify root causes, and ensure conformance
  • Other job duties as assigned

 Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

  • Biosciences degree and minimum of 5 years of relevant EH&S experience or EH&S Certification and minimum of 8-10 years of relevant progressive experience 
  • First Aid, CPR, AED certified
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA and EPA regulations
  • Working knowledge of ISO 13485 and ISO 14001 preferred
  • RCRA / DOT Hazardous Waste certified preferred
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER preferred
  • Knowledge of international environmental health and safety regulations is a plus (e.g. WEEE, RoHS, China RoHS3, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of requirements for handling of genetic material and human derived samples (BSL1 and BSL2) is a plus
  • Must be proactive, hands-on, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities
  • Able to lift objects weighing up to 25 lbs

At Ultima Genomics, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays between $105,000 and $120,000, if performed in California, and your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
