We are searching for a motivated Staff Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering team!
How You’ll Contribute
- Design PCBs and electrical harnesses for our fully automated sequencing and support instruments, encompassing precise robotics to high-speed data acquisition systems.
- Develop custom electrical/firmware/software solutions to replace Off-The-Shelf (OTS) components, aiming to reduce cost, footprint, and enhance reliability.
- Validate custom electronics through lab-bench testing and facilitate their transition to scaling manufacture.
- Implement automation for measurements that qualify component and sub-system level performance, conducting accelerated lifetime testing to ensure reliability.
- Design the electrical interconnect system to facilitate modularity between sub-systems, focusing on reducing cable volume, complexity, and enabling seamless integration of sub-systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- BS and 10+ years of experience or an MS degree and 8+ years of experience.
- Experience in designing custom PCBs and electronics for mixed-signal processing, with a strong understanding of practical design considerations to ensure both signal and power integrity.
- Proficiency with Electrical CAD packages such as Altium, or KiCAD for PCB design.
- Demonstrated experience in industrial electronics, including power supply sizing, wire harness design, part layout, and selection.
- Knowledge of harness component selection, EMI/Shielding strategies, communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet), and analog/digital signal processing.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues on complex multi-disciplinary instruments.
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles in PCB and harness design is advantageous.
- Hands-on and independent work style, coupled with excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in programming and data analysis using Matlab or Python is a plus.
At Ultima Genomics, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays between $150,000 and $175,000, if performed in California, and your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
