Position Description:

As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Interior Systems, you will be responsible for designing, prototyping, iterating, and deploying customer-facing interior shelving and trim systems for Udelv’s autonomous cargo pod. You will focus on user needs as well as issues such as durability and manufacturability.  This role requires cross-functional collaboration with internal teams like electrical & software engineering and product management. You will have a uniquely rewarding opportunity to help build products that enable autonomous last-mile delivery. You will be working on new and innovative solutions and systems, some of which have never been done before, and your innovation and creative skills will be an essential part of your team's success.


  • Design compartment systems and interior trim for our autonomous cargo pod.
  • Collaborate with electrical and software engineering to integrate sensors with interior systems.
  • Work with studio, industrial design, and product management to implement the look and feel of customer facing systems.
  • Facilitate user experience understanding by creating quick-turn prototypes and proof-of-concept models.
  • Create and maintain Bill of Material (BOM), 2D drawings, Request for Quote (RFQ) history and work closely with the supply chain team to source parts for shelving systems and interior trim.


  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of hands-on consumer product and/or vehicle engineering experience.
  • A minimum of one complete product cycle from concept to production.
  • Extensive experience with injection molded part design, material selection and manufacturing processes for automotive interior and structural parts.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modelling with SolidWorks.
  • Application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and experience releasing 2D drawings to production vendors.
  • Electromechanical integration experience.
  • Basic knowledge of tolerance stack analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of finite element analysis.
  • High volume light-weight structural component design experience (desired).
  • Mechanism design & development experience (desired).
  • Experience with user interaction and experience studies (desired).
  • Startup experience (preferred).


  • This is an onsite hands-on position involving team collaboration based out of our HQ in Burlingame, CA
