Position Summary:

Twist Biosciences is looking for an enthusiastic and scientifically driven Research Associate II to join our Data Storage team. This position will provide the successful individual with an opportunity to explore DNA synthesis using both phosphoramidite chemistry and enzymatic synthesis. This position will support reagent preparation and experimental operation of custom-made DNA synthesizers, FPLCs and HPLC instruments.  You will work collaboratively with other team members to facilitate the routine synthesis and purification of chemically modified oligonucleotides and enzyme-bioconjugates using novel chemistries developed in-house.

The candidate should have a passion for working in a fast-paced and highly multidisciplinary environment, be self-motivated, well-organized, and can execute experiments quickly and efficiently. The candidate should also be comfortable presenting their well organized and analyzed data to the multidisciplinary team.

Active collaboration with colleagues across various disciplines, participation in project team meetings, and contribution toward creative problem solving are encouraged.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Electrochemical and enzymatic DNA Synthesis on Twist’s proprietary DNA synthesis platforms
  • Following EHS safety protocols and assisting with maintaining a well-organized, clean, and safe lab working environment. This includes ordering and replenishing an inventory of chemical reagents and lab supplies for daily use
  • Preparing reagents, buffers and measuring DNA and enzyme concentrations using the NanoDrop spectrophotometer
  • Handling phosphoramidites and other DNA synthesis reagents under a nitrogen atmosphere in a glove box to prepare for electrochemical DNA synthesis
  • Synthesizing chemically modified short oligonucleotides containing dye labels, quenchers, photolabile modifications, etc. on a small scale
  • Synthesize and purify various enzyme bioconjugates using FPLC, SEC and RP-HPLC instruments per SOP
  • Accurately summarize, interpret, and review experimental data with adequate computer skills for data acquisition, data management, data analysis and visualization of experimental results
  • Timely and thorough documentation of activities in electronic lab notebook, participate in work presentations at group meetings

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • BS. with at least 8 years experience, M.S. with at least 6-8 years experience in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic electrochemistry, Nucleic acids chemistry or related fields
  • Solid problem solving, excellent communication and time management skills
  • Experience in Oligonucleotide synthesis is highly desirable
  • Hand-on experience with HPLC, microscopy, LCMS or cyclic voltammetry will be a plus.

The base cash compensation for this California-based role is below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package. Final compensation amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location and may vary from the amount listed above. Compensation may be different in other locations.
