About the job

Twilio is growing rapidly and is looking for a seasoned Sales Director for Japan to support the continued growth of Twilio. This person will lead, mentor, and scale a team of full-cycle account executives, who are passionate about onboarding new prospects across Japan.

This individual will also be responsible for driving the execution of Japan GTM programs, driving sales growth, supporting broad enablement activities, forging strong partnerships with a team of cross-functional leaders, and supporting regular inspection and iteration of sales motions.

Responsibilities

We get many highly-qualified prospects every day from corporations already interested in using our platform. Prospects come in via phone, email, and our self-service product. You will employ a selling methodology to drive these leads through a high-velocity pipeline.

  • DON’T SETTLE: Execute against all phases of your pipeline, progressing deals through the sales cycle towards closing business.
  • EMPOWER OTHERS: Lead a team of AEs and manage the day-to-day operations that come along with it. Hire and retain top diverse talent, and be passionate about their success and career progression.
  • BE AN OWNER: Conduct weekly 1:1's with each team members. Provide tactical and strategic deal guidance, training, and career development. 
  • DRAW THE OWL: Work with GTM teams to craft region-specific campaigns and motions.
  • DON’T SETTLE: Help your team build and progress pipeline, work across functions like finance, marketing, and product to close complex deals.
  • RUTHLESSLY PRIORITIZE: Ensure your team maintains accurate and up-to-date CRM information. Run weekly forecast calls with both your team and up to management. Ability to balance challenging priorities and lead multiple projects/deals at the same time.
  • WEAR THE CUSTOMER’S SHOES: You embrace a solution-oriented approach to selling, ensuring your customers receive value from the products they buy from you.
  • NO SHENANIGANS: Ethical. Hands on. Passionate. Persistent. Creative.
  • WRITE IT DOWN: World-class interpersonal and communication skills. You have the ability to thoughtfully make sophisticated contractual, technical, and financial details sound simple.

Requirements

Twilio is looking for a leader who lives the Twilio Magic and has a consistent track record, looking to grow their career in the fast-growing cloud market. They also have:

  • 4+ years of sales and GTM leadership experience in Mid-Market and/or Enterprise software with a consistent track record of success.
  • Demonstrated track record of closing full-cycle deals and leading high-value existing customers within a platform or SaaS company.
  • Knowledge in new economy use cases as well as traditional B2C engagement tools and models.
  • Customer-focused, metrics-driven, embraces a consultative sales philosophy. Passionate about helping their team succeed.
  • Credible and capable mentor to Account Executives. Success in leading and building strong ‘virtual’ sales teams. Understand how to develop your team to deliver more than they may think is possible.
  • Comfortable allowing your team to be Owners of their own business. Sometimes this means giving them autonomy and trusting their decisions, but stepping in and mentoring when needed.
  • Hands-on approach to problem solving. Always ready to work opportunities directly alongside your team when needed.
  • A world-class communicator. Confident in influencing and engaging with an experienced audience including C-level executives.
  • Comfortable acting as the “executive” in your reps’ deals, which entails talking at a strategic level, acting as a sponsor for both the rep and the customer, and making the hard decisions when needed.
  • Native Japanese speaker and business-level English.

Location

This position is located in our Tokyo, Japan offices or it could be remote.

COVID permitting, you will be traveling at least 25% per month for this role visiting customers on-site and occasional visits to corporate for meetings.
