The Who, What, Why and Where

Who?

You're a highly organized game designer who enjoys the challenges of creating an engaging and rewarding visceral experience for players through the use of level design, UI/UX, progression / pathing, rewards, and interactive components within the constraints of existing game lore, software, and content goals.

You're excited to work with stakeholders, including the player community and curriculum designers, to create game level experiences that effectively teach useful skills while also being genuinely fun for learners regardless of their background with education or gaming.

You're accomplished at implementing and iterating on level designs based on feedback from learners and changing software capabilities, including being able to script new gameplay options when appropriate using Javascript.

You're confident working with 2D tileset-based level creation through layered image map design generally, or Tiled specifically. You're experienced using web technology generally, or Phaser specifically.

You work well with stakeholders to collaborate on planning, and excel at taking the initiative to execute plans to accomplish goals in ways that align with the team's values even when specific steps need to be adapted due to changing circumstances.

What?

As a Game Designer, you will live the Twilio Magic values:

BE BOLD: You will help us inspire and equip TwilioQuest players by working with our team, community members, and external teams to create viscerally rewarding gameplay experiences that deliver ever expanding curriculum options within the game.

BE INCLUSIVE: You’ll work with stakeholders to develop new game levels that deliver curriculum and tell engaging stories while staying true to both game lore and learning goals.

DRAW THE OWL: You will analyze and iterate on in-game rewards to keep players motivated to continue investing in their learning journey through points, loot drops, story development, and other visceral gameplay components.

DON’T SETTLE: You'll work with curriculum developers, community members, and external teams to ensure that levels are designed to deliver optimally ramping difficulty and skill training that works well within the game context and in ways that are engaging and effective for learners.
