Because you belong at Twilio

The Who, What, Why and Where

Who?

At Twilio we believe that machine learning is critical for empowering web-scale businesses to secure online interactions and transactions. As a Principal Software Engineer in the Account Security team, you will research and apply the latest big data and machine learning techniques to power core business products like Lookup and Verify.

You are passionate about collaborating with multiple teams to evangelize and build new ways to use big data and machine learning. Your services will go from concept to exponential growth in a very short period of time. While you definitely enjoy getting an MVP out the door, you also know that to take services to scale requires developing a complex distributed platform and you will be concerned with availability, throughput, latency and real-time responsiveness.

You have strong communication & collaboration skills, and a belief that team output is more important than individual output. You are keen to share your technical expertise with other engineers and lead them through an accelerated learning process.

You have an advanced degree in Statistics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, or a related field.

What?

As a Principal Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Driving architecture and building systems for multiple orders of magnitude of growth.
  • Take full end-to-end ownership of your services, from designing to operations and monitoring in production.
  • Working in a fast paced environment and continuously evaluating emerging technologies while mentoring and helping grow engineers.
  • Tackling some of the world's most complex distributed system challenges, at an enormous scale, often exceeding hundreds of millions of transactions per month.
  • Maintaining a 99.999% of both API availability and success rate. There's no maintenance windows ever at Twilio.
  • Engaging with multiple teams to resolve multi-faceted architectures problems.
  • The position requires a practical understanding of machine learning and data science concepts, and a track record of solving problems with these methods.
