Job Description

The Software Development Engineer in Test II supports the build, maintenance, and testing of TuSimple’s cartography tools and
features.
The incumbent assists with programing test code, conducts analysis, supports issue resolution, and ensures strong system and
test documentation. In this role, Software Development Engineer in Test II also provides input and recommendations for
software development initiatives and coordination of cartography tolles and features.

Responsibilities

  • Builds and maintains realistic map production workflows and projects to validate cartographic tools and processes.
  • Supports the development of the System/Integration test strategy. Assists with the development and implementation of
    automated and manual test plans, test processes, test scenarios, and test cases/data, based on the defined test
    strategy.
  • Assists with the programing of test code and analyzes test results; provides feedback and reports related to test
    results, status, quality and stability, etc. Ensures alignment with test strategy, test plans, and test documentation.
  • Partners closely with Map Production Specialists/Engineers, Developers, and User Experience Designers to ensure a
    high-quality user experience for cartographic tools and features.
  • Appropriately triages ticket requests/incidents. Responds to escalated incidents with an appropriate level of urgency.
    Performs root-cause analysis to determine and resolve issues. Ensures follow up with colleagues and requestor on all
    assigned incidents.
  • Creates and maintains detailed test documentation and processes. Ensures the Map Production knowledgebase is up
    to date.
  • Stays abreast of new and evolving technologies and best practices for software testing. Researches, monitors, and
    analyzes trends in the mapping space to provide insights and recommendations for improving technology and
    processes. Recommends innovative, and where possible automated, approaches for map tasks. Documents all
    approved changes.
  • Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced Map Production professionals. Supports their development
    through knowledge sharing and partnership.
  • Maintains a customer service approach through aggressive deadlines, changing priorities, and evolving operations, as
    is common to progressive start-up environments.

Qualifications

  • B.S in Computer Science, or related
  • Proven ability to work in Unix environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to review functional and non-functional requirements, and design specifications to build comprehensive understanding of deliverables.
  • Ability to develop, document and maintain functional test cases and other test artifacts (e.g. test data, data validation, harness scripts, automated scripts, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to identify test requirements from specifications, map test case requirements, and design test coverage plan.
  • Ability to document processes and work clearly, with focus on building and improving processes and promoting quality.
  • Proven ability to execute and evaluate manual or automated test cases and report test results.
  • Proficiency with test plan and test case writing and defect management and use of various test management tools.
  • Demonstrable experience with isolating, replicating, and reporting defects, then verifying defect fixes
  • Strong coding skills with Python
  • Working knowledge and understanding of databases. Ability to conduct database queries and to extract, clean, and organize data (NoSQL, SQL).

  • Demonstrated ability to extract actionable insights from data and provide solutions for issues utilizing data.
