Opportunity Overview 

TuSimple’s Internal Communications Manager operates as a thought partner, providing strategic communications support to TuSimple’s C-Suite and business leaders. In this role, the Internal Communications Manager develops and implements internal communications strategies and plans to engage, inform, align, and inspire employees and candidates, with TuSimple’s vision, strategy, and values. The Internal Communications Manager partners cross-functionally to build, develop, and initiate employer branding and employee engagement strategies and initiatives; creates communications and content conveying TuSimple’s Employer Value Proposition that extend throughout the employee-lifecycle, and inspires employee advocacy

Role Responsibilities

  • Provides thought leadership and strategic support for leadership, serving as the organization's internal communications advisor. Consults with leaders on their communication and change management strategies. Writes and develops messaging around a wide arena of topics, including organizational strategy, priorities, key initiatives, and major changes. Drafts messages and/or talking points for leaders for presentations, organization-wide meetings, and other internal communications.
  • Creates a branded, cohesive internal communication program by working with key stakeholders across the business. Translates leadership’s vision into an executable internal communications strategy which supports leaders with sharing TuSimple’s vision and strategy in a compelling way, ensures who we are, what we do, and where we're going is clearly understood, and that employees connect to strategic objectives and key initiatives. 
  • Develops a deep understanding of employee and candidate profiles through qualitative and quantitative research, creates data-driven and impactful insights, scrutinizes engagement trends, and reports on the internal landscape. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to understand, align, and take action on insights. 
  • Establishes, executes, and drives internal communication strategies and programs to increase employee and candidate engagement. Identifies and executes optimal engagement strategies, brand experiences, and communication plans to drive connection with TuSimple’s employer brand, strategic objectives, and key priorities. Creates opportunities to gather feedback on internal communications and programs. 
  • Partners with across leadership, Marketing, Human Resources, and Recruiting to develop an employer brand communications strategy, which includes brand quality, consistency, and effectiveness metrics. Drives awareness and adoption of TuSimple’s employer brand messaging, internally and externally. 
  • Designs effective and compelling content to cultivate and drive employer brand awareness and attract and spark perceived value from targeted candidate profiles. Ensures alignment with brand strategy across all communication platforms and channels. 
  • Creates timely and engaging content conveying TuSimple's Employer Value Proposition, in a way that speaks to busy candidates. Extends the employer brand messaging framework across the candidate and employee lifecycle, creating and reinforcing an authentic and consistent narrative about working at TuSimple. 
  • Proactively identifies and develops innovative ways to communicate to our employees, providing meaningful insight to our strategy and brand, and motivating them to become top ambassadors for TuSimple.
  • Develops and defines ways to enable quantifiable measurement of internal communications’ effectiveness, reach, and engagement with key targets. 
  • Creates educational and informational content to drive employer brand awareness, support staff retention, align performance with TuSimple’s strategy, and support brand adoption internally. Identifies knowledge gaps and builds learning plans to address. Actively seeks out understanding of what is occurring within the organization and works to “bake in” brand updates with company-wide activities (e.g. newsletters, surveys, town halls, etc.).   
  • Establishes governance and guidelines for internal communications. Develops foundational communication templates, materials, and best practices. 

Experience & Skills Required 

  • 7 years of experience in Communications and/or Human Resources, or related field 
  • 3 years experience with Employer Branding and/or Internal Communications. (Preferred: Experience at a publicly traded company or a technology company)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Human Resources, Journalism, Public Relations, Management, Marketing, or related field. (Preferred: Master’s Degree or MBA)
  • A born story-teller and superior creative writer, with exacting editorial standards. 
  • Ability to think “big” and deliver innovative strategic solutions. 
  • Extensive experience advising executives in communications and reputation management. 
  • Proven ability to produce content for internal audiences at varying levels across an organization, including presentations, blog content, newsletter, internal emails, and other forms of internal communications. 
  • Demonstrated writing and editing excellence; crafting internal materials and correspondence, as well as deep understanding of writing for different channels. 
  • Familiarity with best practice communications tactics and tools. 
  • Demonstrated success providing strong counsel to leaders and producing meaningful change management communications.
  • Ability to communicate to a mixed employee population, including truck drivers, technologists, and engineers. 
  • Demonstrated success with capturing complex information and shaping it into target-  engaging, timely, and valuable content through multiple formats. Proven ability to partner with executives and leaders across all functional business areas, finding innovative ways to tell an organization’s story, connect employees to strategy, and demonstration of organizational values. 
  • Excellent presentation skills, with demonstrated strengths with planning, setting up, and moderating all-hands meetings and other employee communication events. 
  • Experience developing and executing thoughtful, strategic, and actionable employment branding programs which take complex technology and translates it into compelling narratives. 
  • Proven capabilities in project management, including ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Ability to tackle complex problems with a strategic mindset and create thoughtful recommendations and action plans for solving those problems
