Opportunity Overview

Tusimple is a self-driving technology company with a mission to bring automation to the trucking industry. Build & Release team plays a critical role in the software delivery velocity and quality. As we continue on the path to productize our technologies, an experienced Software Test team is essential to ensure we have the right tools, the proper test coverage and the test plans that look further ahead. The Software Test team participates in the end-product testing, as well as exit criteria definitions. The team also drives collecting test metrics to create visibility into our software quality. You will collaborate closely with the tools team, algorithm and engineering leadership teams to ensure we have the proper investment in our vehicle software testing.

 

Example projects

  • Execute integration testing for the vehicle software to identify quality issues before testing it on the trucks. Evaluate from an end-user perspective.
  • Drive requirements and development of test management and reporting tools.
  • Define and track test metrics, leveraging continuous integration pipelines.
  • Own and maintain test tools or services which are used for static code analysis, or code coverage, etc..
  • Create the “done-done” definition of single packages as well as the integrated product, including safety, security, functionality, performance, compatibility, etc.
  • Measure and plan for test machine resources.

 

Role & Responsibilities

  • Drive test plans, test tool designs, as well as test case designs.
  • Mentor junior engineers. Provide technical guidance, through paired programming and code reviews. Establish role models for the company and the team’s core values.
  • Act as tech lead on the team. Coordinate execution. Own project execution results. Collaborate with Program Manager and other engineering or algorithm teams.
  • Define tangible exit criteria (performance, functionality, security, etc.) for software releases. Provide tools and guidance to collect metrics against each criterion.
  • Research, recommend and implement tools for Test Management, Test Reporting, Test Automation, etc.
  • Manage test assets (e.g. test machines) and conduct capacity planning. Evaluate cloud options for those assets for scalability. Execute plans to relocate test assets as needed.
  • Execute test cases to evaluate software quality. Analyze test failures to help developers identify root causes.
  • Analyze and identify test gaps. Collaborate with developers to find proper solutions to catch issues in earlier development cycles.
  • Automate manual testing operations to accelerate productivity and improve accuracy.

 

Experience & Skills Required

  • At least 5 years of industry experience as a software development engineer in test or software test engineer.
  • Experience in acting in tech lead or manager roles in a software engineer in test team.
  • Deep understanding of test methodologies, including regression, functional, integration, performance, security, etc, especially for safety first systems.
  • Experience with test management, test reporting and test automation tools.
  • Experience with documenting test plans.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining full stack microservices.
  • Experience with cloud services, such as AWS.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with Python.
  • Experience with C++.
  • Experience working with autonomous driving technology.
