About the team:

We're seeking a talented leader who will head up the revenue accounting team at Turo. This is a critical role to drive transformation within the revenue function as we look to scale and meet the requirements of being a public company. It is an exciting and central role within the accounting team, responsible for growing and mentoring the revenue team, as well as maturing our systems and processes to match our current stage of growth. This position will act as the company's subject matter expert on revenue recognition issues, partnering with cross-functional teams, including during the development of new product lines. This role will ensure the company's revenue recognition accounting policies are consistent with GAAP and are updated to address changes in product offerings. This position will report to the CAO.

What you will do:

  • Oversee and lead Turo’s revenue function, ensuring scalability through the development of efficient and streamlined processes.
  • Provide thought leadership and establish a long-term vision on the order-to-cash process for scalability and to meet the requirements of a public company. Drive revenue transformation initiatives and lead the team through change management.
  • Develop and mentor the revenue team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Lead initiatives for talent development, process improvement, and effective controls within the revenue accounting function.
  • Serve as the finance organization’s subject matter expert on revenue accounting and prepare clear technical accounting documentation timely on new issues, leveraging external resources to validate conclusions when required.
  • Collaborate on new initiatives; partner with product, engineering, data and BD to assess the impact on revenue recognition, operational impact, scalability, and business risk.
  • Work closely with Turo’s external auditors to ensure approved revenue policies are adhered to, align on new and developing revenue topics and transactions, and ensure all audit and SEC reporting deliverables are met.
  • Maintain and evolve revenue-related internal controls and evaluate opportunities for efficiency while ensuring compliance with Turo’s revenue accounting policies and SOX.
  • Develop, recommend, and/or drive innovative process improvements that leverage technology and maximize overall efficiency while maintaining or strengthening internal controls
  • Be proactive in identifying and chasing down issues within revenue accounting, as well as providing timely updates and documentation through conclusion of these issues.

Your profile:

  • 10+ years of experience with revenue accounting and reporting, including experience working in a publicly traded company.
  • BS in Finance or Accounting; CPA and Big 4 experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, particularly revenue recognition (ASC 606)
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, along with outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable distilling detailed information into executive level messaging and those less familiar with revenue accounting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and comfortable working with large data sets and advanced Excel and SQL knowledge.

Bonus if you have:

    • Proven track record of scaling and developing teams, and strong supervisory and leadership skills.
    • Experience with working with large data sets and NetSuite ARM or other third-party revenue engines a plus
    • Takes initiative and is proactive in operationally ambiguous situations to drive forward and execute projects and initiatives, with detailed project plans and timelines.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and able to build relationships across teams and work effectively cross functionally.

The SF base salary target range for this full-time position is $220k - $265k + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in this location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
