We’re looking for an analytical go-getter with ambition, energy and expertise. This high-level position will challenge you to set new milestones, streamline processes and add efficiency. This role  leads all aspects of global revenue accounting, operations and reporting, including establishing scalable revenue processes, policies, procedures and technical analysis.  As a finance team member you will have broad exposure to various functions at Turo, including Engineering, Product, Business Development & Customer Experience and will also work closely with external business partners.   The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong understanding of GAAP and revenue recognition principles, excellent technical and communication skills, and the ability to partner effectively across business functions. With your passion for teamwork and ambitious, proactive style, you will make significant contributions to every aspect of our Accounting function, managing and facilitating Turo’s phenomenal growth rate.

Responsibilities:

  • Own revenue recognition process for all Turo revenue streams, ensuring revenue is recognized in accordance with U.S. GAAP and applicable accounting policies
  • Lead monthly revenue accounting close and drive improvements in close process to ensure revenues, deferred revenue, accounts receivable and other related accounts are recorded timely and accurately
  • Key driver in communicating accounting requirements and frameworks to engineering teams for new products and feature changes, including testing and validation
  • Partner with product teams to influence operational decisions and to provide feedback on potential accounting implications for new products or platform changes
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on the design and implementation of revenue automation/recognition tools
  • Foster, build and manage productive, proactive business partnerships with cross-functional internal organizations including Sales, Marketing, Operations, Corporate FP&A, Legal and IT
  • Ensure that revenue recognition is communicated, implemented, and applied consistently
  • Provide revenue recognition guidance and interpretations to company revenues, based on authoritative literature and company policies
  • Prepare technical memos to summarize revenue issues and provide appropriate conclusions and recommendations to management and external auditors
  • Assist in the adoption and implementation of ASC-606, working closely with the department VP, external third parties and internal resources
  • Work with external auditors to support annual audits
  • Ensure effective internal controls
  • Recruit, mentor and manage a high performing team
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects (M&A, new accounting pronouncements, etc.) as needed

Qualifications:

  • Our successful candidate will have:
  • 10+ years’ experience in Big 4 public accounting firm combined with industry experience at a top tiered company (Tech industry and / or publicly company experience preferred)
  • A or B.S. in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a closely related discipline
  • CPA certification required
  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP and revenue recognition guidance
  • Experience working in big data environment preferred
  • Advanced excel knowledge. SQL knowledge (Basic to Intermediate) a plus
  • Ability to collaborate and work with a diverse team and impact change across functional and business boundaries
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience developing and building teams
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical accounting requirements to a non-technical audience
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Project management skills, with extreme attention to detail
  • The ability to shrewdly identify problems and apply strong problem-solving skills to obtain resolution
  • Excellent business judgment
  • Self-motivation and drive, with a passion for teamwork
