How do you know when someone liked your post? How do you see what people are saying about what you posted? How do you participate in the conversation?
You’ll work on all of that and more. This small team located in San Francisco works to make both the Activity pages and Notes around a post better on web, iOS, and Android. We need a full stack engineer to work on the backend, but be thinking about and pitching in from time to time on the front end, too. We think that could be you.
What You'll Do:
Make new things. Make old things better. You know, software development!
Improve the many ways that our users see and interact with:
Notes on posts. Encourage conversation, from replies to reblogging, and make it awesome!
Activity. Alert users to the activity that is happening on their posts and the posts they’ve interacted with.
Push notifications. Give users pertinent and delightful notifications of things they would likely want to know about their activity on Tumblr.
Work on the middle and backend tiers, including designing and implementing API calls, thinking about schemas, and ensuring performance and stability.
Collaborate with the rest of our small, talented team of engineers, designers, and product managers on the above.
Own a feature from its inception through the design process, development, debugging, release, and celebration.
Clearly communicate the status of your projects to internal stakeholders and raise concerns early so any challenges can be quickly addressed.
What We’re Looking For:
You enjoy spelunking through old code, understanding it, and refactoring it to be just as beautiful as the greenfield code you wrote yesterday.
Affection for simplicity.
A heightened sense of ownership.
Knows / not afraid of / will learn PHP and Scala.
Knows a bit of frontend web.
Can communicate easily with iOS, Android, and frontend web engineers
Ability to think from the user’s perspective, preferably with experience and opinions about software in the social space.
