ABOUT ROCKET MONEY đź”®

Rocket Money’s mission is to empower people to live their best financial lives. Rocket Money offers members a unique understanding of their finances and a suite of valuable services that save them time and money – ultimately giving them a leg up on their financial journey.

Rocket Money is in the next phase of its machine learning journey. Over the past two years, we’ve taken models from their infancy to critical path - classifying billions of transactions for millions of users, predicting LTV in milliseconds, and building the monitoring, tooling, and infrastructure that enables that level of operation. Currently, this team reports to the VP of Data, but it’s time to install a dedicated manager. This person will be responsible for maintaining and improving the operational dependency of the team, adding new models into the critical path of the product (think account balance prediction, propensity models) along with the infrastructure that turns ML into a system within Rocket Money, while growing the team in impact and size.

ABOUT THE ROLE 🤹‍♀️

In this role, you will:

  • Technically lead a team that has an outsized impact within the Rocket Family of Companies
    • Manage a team day to day working with product, engineering, and design stakeholders to incorporate machine intelligence into our consumer facing products.
    • Operate the team - handling project management, prioritization, resourcing, and day to day operations of the system.
    • Innovation - build a pipeline of novel additions to our consumer and internal facing products that drive the next round of scale and impact.
  • Build great systems
    • Build and tune process that enables efficiency and optimization of our infrastructure across the Rocket Family of Companies.
    • Maintain and iterate on critical path machine learning systems responsible for enriching every transaction our users see (1 Billion/month!).
    • Bring standardization into our machine learning initiatives.
  • Grow and retain a great team that is proud to work at Rocket Money
    • Directly manage a machine learning team (3-4).
    • Develop strong feedback loops with your direct reports; focusing on coaching, career growth, and performance management.
    • Recruit and scale the team responsibly over the next year.
    • Encourage team members to share their work and research in both internal and external forums.

ABOUT YOU 🦄

  • You have managed a team of machine learning engineers and scientists to solve business problems at large volume inference problems at consumer or b2b scale (think transactions, trading, agriculture)
  • You're a player-coach - the reality is we’re a small team right now and as part of your role, you’ll be growing your reports but also in the interim, helping build
  • You have demonstrated practical experience running multiple ML projects in a production environment that are critical paths where inference time and reliability are key operating metrics
  • A background in product experimentation and measurement is highly desired, as most models are champion/challenger tested with consumer KPIs (LTV, Churn, Activation) as primary decision points
  • Love to document (we're an async organization that works remotely and documentation is essential to our success). Bonus points if you fix Notion search someday
  • Experience in the curation and construction of a training data corpus, particularly ones susceptible to drift in both time and composition due to human behavior
  • Have experience with state-of-the-art models and compute technologies (transformer models, neural networks, SageMaker, Vertex AI) cloud based ML systems

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
