About this Role

Trōv is looking for a passionate, energetic, and hands-on Principal Engineer to design and implement next generation insurtech solutions.  As a Principal Engineer, you will work with stakeholders to develop pragmatic solutions to a wide range of problems and participate in identifying opportunities to expand Trov’s embedded insurance platform.  

This is a hands-on role where you will be expected to actively participate in all aspects of the product development lifecycle.  If you are a seasoned engineer, energized by a startup environment, love solving problems and building solutions, and looking for a place where you can have a direct impact, then we’d love to talk to you!   

This is a full-time remote position based in the United States or Canada.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Solving complex technical and business problems 
  • Providing domain expertise on embedded insurance
  • Working with stakeholders to break down high level problems into executable units of work
  • Clearly communicating complex technical and business concepts
  • Providing technical guidance across multiple teams and technology stacks
  • Leading and owning the delivery of multiple subsystems
  • Ensuring the development of maintainable and supportable solutions 
  • Contributing clean, maintainable, and testable code
  • Mentoring engineers and exemplifying professionalism and organizational values
  • Building consensus and influencing others on best practices and process improvements

You have/are: 

  • Experience breaking down high level business problems to production deliverables
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills targeting technical and non technical stakeholders of differing skill levels
  • Experience building and supporting both frontend and backend technologies
  • Expertise in consuming and authoring web services and APIs
  • Solid understanding of end to end cloud based solution architecture for modern web, API, and mobile applications
  • Hands on experience writing and then supporting an API in production
  • Mastery of one of Python/Node/.net core/Java with a willingness to learn others
  • Expertise in React and delivering JS based applications in production
  • Expertise in at least one SQL database
  • Solid understanding of UI concepts including cross-browser compatibility, security principles, accessibility, and general web functions and standards
  • Mastery of Git and GitHub
  • Proficiency in Docker
  • Experience leading a team of engineers

You'll stand out from the crowd if you have:

  • AWS and Devops experience
  • Expertise in Typescript and .NET core
  • Proficiency with multiple types of data stores
  • Contributions to open-source projects
  • Experience working with globally dispersed teams
  • Background in financial applications
