Team Rubicon International (TRI) is seeing rapid deployment volunteer Medical Providers to staff our Type I Emergency Medical Teams (EMT). TRI Type I EMTs deploy to communities around the world to help prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and humanitarian crises. These teams are able to provide stabilization of acute trauma and non-trauma patients as well as coordinate referrals to inpatient or community based primary care as needed. Type I EMTs are highly mobile and have the ability to work in multiple locations over the period of deployment.  

Applicants must be able to depart within 24 hours of being accepted and be available for 2-3 weeks. Applicants must be experienced emergency care providers.  

As a TR International Health Professional, you will be expected to work in challenging, austere, and sometimes insecure environments. You must be physically capable and mentally resilient to navigate moderate to long distances on foot, work without access to electricity or basic technologies, and at times procure potable water. Inherent to this position is the willingness to deploy on a deliberately planned humanitarian operation or in response to a natural or man-made disaster in potentially hazardous environments on short notice.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide direct patient care as part of an EMT Type I Medical Team.  
  • Triage of patients based on severity and assets. 
  • Identification of possible life-threatening cases needing immediate attention.
  • Surveillance and follow up of patients awaiting discharge or transfer.
  • Accurate and timely patient documentation.
  • Knowledge of supply inventory, to include emergency medications, included in the team medical kit.
  • Participation in load-out and maintenance of pharmacological, medical, technological, and workforce equipment caches.  
  • Clean, maintain, and back-fill any equipment or supplies used.
  • Provide operational feedback that assists in the development of future standards, policies, and processes.
  • Ensure compliance of all activities in accordance with TRI policies, relevant US laws, and international regulations  

EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND

  • Physician: Two years of relevant professional experience post residency. Active DEA license 
  • Nurse: BSN, plus three years of current clinical experience in ED, ICU, PACU, or Flight 
  • Paramedic: NREMT-P, plus two years pre-hospital experience  

      Required:

  • Current unencumbered licensure (NREMT-P required for paramedics) (DEA required for Physicians) 
  • BLS 
  • ACLS 
  • PALS/ENPC
  • Current clinical experience/practice
  • Must be able to pass modified pack test – Three-mile hike, carrying 45-pound pack, in one hour
  • Must have a current passport with six months validity from date of departure
  • Meet WHO vaccination requirements, including COVID-19
  • Cleared TR background check
  • Ability to live in an environment without electricity or running water, and without requirement of life enhancing devices (CPAP, etc.)

      Highly preferred:

  • International humanitarian travel experience
