Director, IT Infrastructure

About the role:

As the Director, Head of IT Infrastructure you will be responsible for a broad remit of our IT infrastructure including:

  • Core IT services such as Microsoft 365, Entra (AzureAD) & Intune plus Okta, Zoom, Egnyte and more.
  • Networking across our sites, remote users and cloud via firewalls, switches, WiFi, VPN, SASE and related network level security.
  • 100% cloud-based virtual datacenters via AWS.
  • Security – working with our SOC and endpoint security platform.

You will be supported by our Cloud Infrastructure team, whom you will lead, and our multiple Managed Service Providers (MSPs) that specialize in the different areas providing System, Network and Cloud Engineers along with our SOC and endpoint security concierges. While you will have a variety of resources available to direct you should be comfortable both architecting and implementing changes yourself, specifically for Core IT services. You will work closely with our End User Services team as they sit at the front-line with our users leveraging our IT infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working at all organizational levels on both planned tasks and unexpected challenges. To achieve this, you must be an excellent communicator, able to multi-task and work independently on collaborative projects, with both internal and external resources.

This critical role reports into the Head of IT and is a member of our IT team - an inter-disciplinary team which includes End User Services, Infrastructure, Enterprise Systems, and Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC).The services provided by our IT team are consumed by everyone at Treeline and is therefore crucial we provide user focused solutions following our guiding principle of enabling all users through secure and empowering guardrails.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT systems.
  • Provide strategic direction by keeping current with the latest technologies and determine what new technology solutions and implementations will meet business and system requirements.
  • Manage a team of Cloud Infrastructure Engineers.
  • Think big to fix issues and improve our systems and processes for everyone, not just the immediate task at hand.
  • This role includes a hands-on component of assisting end users with troubleshooting (Level 3 helpdesk tickets), as needed.
  • Coordinate with other internal IT specialists to develop and enhance our IT & scientific infrastructure.
  • Manage third-party vendor relationships and service contracts.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering or similar plus 8-10 years of experience in similar roles.
  • Previous experience managing a team, preferably a distributed team.
  • Previous experience working and partnering with and managing MSPs.
  • Technical knowledge of infrastructure technologies, both on premise and cloud based, including server management, LAN/WAN/Wireless networking, storage, security, etc.
  • A track record of taking ownership in issue resolution. No problem is too big or too small.
  • Organized and detail orientated.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively on solutions with coworkers/vendors who are both local and remote to you.
  • You are curious, creative, and innovative and want to continuously improve our processes.
  • You are great at working within a diverse team of technologists, life scientists, data scientists, and engineers, both internal and external, to collaborate and help drive mission-critical projects forward.
  • Prior experience in a biotech or Life Sciences startup is preferred.
  • Occasional travel, as required, to our sites.

This position is classified as exempt. The anticipated annual base salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego is $178,395 to $211,750. The final base salary offered to the successful candidate will be dependent upon several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the job, education, and other factors. Treeline Biosciences is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other cities or states.
