Engineering Manager - Wise Account

Wise is one the fastest growing companies in the world and we’re on a mission: to make money without borders the new normal. We’ve got 10 million customers across the globe and we’re growing. Fast.

Current banking systems don't let us send, spend or receive money across borders easily. Or quickly. Or cheaply.

So, we’re building a new one.

And, we need a talented Engineering Manager, based in our Austin office (with a flexible combined in-office and WFH approach), to join our mission.

Wise has already pioneered new ways for people to transfer money across borders and currencies. Our customers can also manage their hard-earned money with the world’s first platform to offer true multi-currency banking

Here’s how you’ll be contributing to the North America Team:

  • You’ll help other people and businesses to bring out the best from their Wise Account. Save more money by receiving and holding money with Wise.
  • You’ll lead, coach and grow a team locally in North America, as well as shape the Account vision for Wise globally.
  • You’ll scale a best in class product across the US and Canada while ensuring the learnings you have in-market are shared back with our other global regions.

What does it take?

    1. Working with other Wise leaders globally to achieve our Mission: Money without borders.
    2. Building a championship team. Fostering an environment of autonomy where everyone is encouraged to  identify and prioritize customer problems and opportunities.
    3. Helping your team make data-driven decisions by providing feedback on architecture and approach.
    4. Raise the bar for the team to reach new heights of technical excellence.

    • You’re passionate about building high quality products, working on big challenges and taking full ownership of the customer journey
    • You have experience in leading, hiring, coaching and mentoring driven individuals
    • You’re enabling your team to solve complex problems by breaking them down into small iterative steps of incremental value
    • You’ve built and designed scalable and performing systems
    • You have experience in designing, deploying and maintaining clean RESTful APIs
    • You have experience with microservices architecture, asynchronous message queues and SQL databases
    • You are still hands on with coding, and enjoy getting your hands dirty

…but don’t worry we don’t expect you to know everything!

Nice to have:

  • You’ve worked with Java/Kotlin, preferably with Spring Boot

What does success look like?

  • You’ll have found your place in our mission by understanding how to drive engineering solutions and look to future challenges
  • You’ll understand our customers and the impact our product has on their lives
  • You’ll make contributions to the wider engineering goals of the company
  • You’ll inspire a team environment where ideas are shared and openness is valued
  • You’ll help us scale-up and build a world class global banking product that impacts millions of customers

What you get back:

  • The ability to choose your own path to success - you’ll have the freedom to define the vision

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor required by law to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We are also required to measure our progress toward having at least 7% of our workforce be individuals with disabilities. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had a disability. Because a person may become disabled at any time, we ask all of our employees to update their information at least every five years.

Identifying yourself as an individual with a disability is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer will be maintained confidentially and not be seen by selecting officials or anyone else involved in making personnel decisions. Completing the form will not negatively impact you in any way, regardless of whether you have self-identified in the past. For more information about this form or the equal employment obligations of federal contractors under Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.

How do you know if you have a disability?
