We are seeking a candidate with leadership skills to head the Data Architecture and Engineering team.
Reporting to the Chief Data Officer, you will be part of a functionally integrated team, bring expertise in
advanced data engineering for large-scale life science data systems. Our research mission is based on
innovative scientific approaches to developing life-changing medicines and our ability to derive insights
from massive amounts of scientific data. We are seeking a technical leader who will drive the short- and
long-term technology needs of the organization and define and execute on a vision to create an
advanced data platform. You will be tasked with developing a data architecture strategy as well as be
hands-on as you lead a growing team to that ensures continuous value delivery for scientists, and as we
progress through multiple phases of increasing data scale.


Requirements:

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. with 6+ years of industry experience in systems architecture and data science in a
life science setting
• Proven leadership experience in driving teams towards common scientific goals and in creating
innovative solutions across the organizational
• Essential expertise in developing and implementing data warehouses, data lakes, and lake
houses with experience of the latest platforms for efficient high-scale data hosting and analytics
(e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, AWS Redshift)
• Experience in working in an AWS environment, and a track record of experience with enterprise
database and data platform systems design
• Broad range of hands-on expertise and experience with RDBMS (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server,
MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g. Neo4j, Allegrograph, MongoDB) database systems, OLAP
and OLTP, Snowflake, DataBricks, Hadoop, HDFS, Hive, Pig, Sqoop, Mahout, REST, Semantic
Integration, Python, R, RapidMiner, JIRA, Scrum, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS
Fargate, etc.)
• Hands-on expertise in Cloud environments and administration with experience (e.g.  Apache
Ambari, Nifi, Kafka, Spark, Flink, AWS EC2, EMR, Lambda, Glue, Athena, S3, EFS)
• Knowledge or familiarity of life science research data types (biological and chemical), ‘omics
data, and life science platforms is important 
• Adaptability and eagerness to troubleshoot or adjust to scientific changes as necessary
• Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and contribute to critical decision
making
• Big picture thinking with an enthusiasm to drive data science methods forward and work
collaboratively to help develop novel therapies for patients


Responsibilities:

• Establish, hire, and lead a team focused on building out a scaled scientific data pipeline to
support data analytics, data modeling and knowledge capture
• Provide technical leadership, strategy, and hands-on expertise in all aspects of data
warehousing, Cloud computing and Big Data analysis pipelining
• Create an environment of innovation and entrepreneurship that enables a scalable data
architecture to support all scientific data across the organization
• Provide hands-on system design, DB schema design, software engineering and overall systems
architecture support for the organization
• Interact and form close and interactive partnerships with key stakeholder groups, including
chemistry, biology, computational chemistry, ML scientists and IT functions
• Provide mentorship and development of the team and contribute to building a culture that
embraces scientific excellence and integrity with a sense of urgency and collaboration
