Meet the Team 

The Perception team is responsible for developing perception algorithms to detect and identify objects for Torc's autonomous driving systems, allowing the system to understand and react to the environment around the vehicle in real-time. Our algorithms utilize 3D point cloud data from LiDAR and objects detected in radar returns. The team also implements the sensor fusion algorithms that combine this data and provide probabilistic state estimation. 

What you'll do

As the VP of Perception you will develop and implement a cross-organizational Perception strategy, tactics, and road map necessary for Torc to achieve short and long-term business goals. Ensure development and production of the right sensors, perception algorithms and solutions to bring technology to production. Develop high performing teams that help drive the technology and elevate the product. Additionally you will: 

  • Develop, test, and implement perception solutions including all phases of the product life cycle from research, development, implementation to maintenance.
  • Develop and evaluate sensor requirements as input for the sensor development.
  • Partner with Torc peers to incorporate technology into the overall systems architecture
  • Enhance and track processes, milestones, quality metrics, and timeliness of team’s work products to ensure successful completion of goals, tasks, and milestones.
  • Release software components for test and production.
  • Investigate, incorporate, and develop industry best practices and learnings to ensure continued Torc leadership in the field of perception.
  • Hiring and building a high caliber team to support product development.
  • Fostering and reinforcing a culture of continuous learning and relentless process improvement
  • Accountable and Responsible for maintaining domain knowledge
  • Responsible for the Corporate strategic business plan (5-year, 10-year strategy); decide on market strategy; future product lines; M&A
  • Responsible for communicating the pulse of the organization to executive leadership
  • Partners with upper management and directors to craft communications to the organization that motivates teams and celebrates accomplishments 

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, OR other related discipline. Master's degree in Engineering with a focus in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Computer Science or similar preferred.
  • 10 + years of software development experience including developing and managing an environmental perception program and strategy. 
  • 6+ years leading high performance engineering research and development teams.
  • Strong experience with Linux, Networking and Virtualization.
  • Experience with Virtual Machine, Linux OS, and interfacing with databases such as python and STOL, and cloud computing (AWS).
  • Expertise in the field of environment perception (cameras, Radar, Lidar) with a proven record of accomplishment including software development, artificial intelligence algorithm development, etc.
  • Entrepreneurial drive with a demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a fast-paced innovative environment and to deliver products through excellent team management and project management abilities. 
  • Track record in managing all phases of software development.
  • Strong leadership skills to manage and grow a diverse dynamic engineering team through both formal processes and hands-on management.
  • Ability to network and interface with high-tech companies, work within the structures and processes of both the IT and the trucking industry.
  • A passion for and the ability to develop and grow colleagues to their highest potential.
