Tomorrow.io’s Products & Engineering department is focused on building software and products at scale, from infrastructure that handles massive amounts of data to outstanding customer centric user experiences in B2B, B2C and B2D products that change billions of lives worldwide.

We’re looking for a Backend Team Lead who will guide a team of exceptionally talented engineers to build and scale our weather intelligence platform. Our backend services process millions of events per second—handling massive amounts of data at unparalleled scale—to deliver actionable insights to customers worldwide. You will be at the forefront of solving complex engineering challenges related to big data processing, high-volume distributed systems, and robust infrastructure design. Your leadership will ensure that our systems remain both cutting-edge and resilient as we continue to expand.

What You’ll do:

Technical Leadership:

  • Architect, develop, and maintain high-scale backend systems and APIs capable of processing millions of real-time events per second.
  • Drive best practices for code quality, testing, and continuous integration/deployment in a big data environment.

Team Management & Mentorship:

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of top-tier backend engineers, guiding them through intricate design decisions and growth in their careers.
  • Foster an environment of continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation to tackle complex engineering problems together.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with product managers, data scientists, frontend engineers, and DevOps to translate ambitious product requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Ensure seamless communication and transparency across cross-functional teams to deliver impactful features on time.

Scalability & Performance:

  • Continuously optimize system performance, reliability, and security for large-scale, real-time data pipelines.
  • Leverage distributed computing, streaming frameworks, and cutting-edge data technologies to maintain and improve system throughput and resilience.

What you’ll need:

Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Team Lead or Engineering Manager, successfully guiding backend teams.
  • 6+ years of professional backend development experience, ideally with a focus on high-scale, data-intensive applications.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in at least one backend programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java, Node.js) and strong understanding of web technologies (HTTP, RESTful APIs, microservices).
  • Demonstrated experience with distributed systems, streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka), databases (SQL/NoSQL), and performance optimization at scale.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of leading and motivating a high-performing team.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude, attention to detail, and a can-do attitude toward solving complex engineering challenges.
  • Passion for continuous learning, adaptability, and the perseverance to push through tough technical hurdles.
