The Editor working on Special Editions will be responsible for the style and content of certain special publications. Our goal is to provide exceptional, informative and engaging content. With direction from the Editorial Director, you will plan, coordinate, review and edit content. You must be comfortable across news, lifestyle, health and historical subjects, and across a range of topics. The successful candidate will have writing experience and have the ability to supervise writers and junior editors.
Manage the title throughout stages of production
Help conceptualize project, create story list, and establish goals, expectations, specific content and standards for the publication under guidance of the Editorial Director
Pitch stories and generate headline ideas in alignment with targeted audience’s preferences
Assign stories and features, which may mean sending out briefs to writers, that include word count, deadline, and writing style
Collaborate and liaise with writers, designers, photo editors and others, helping to determine the overall look, feel, and tone of a book while meeting deadlines
Generate ideas for features with writers
Edit and, when needed, re-write articles
Have an understanding of media law and industry ethical guidelines and comply without exception; proofread all pages before going to press; assist other staff to meet their deadlines
