The Business Systems team is looking for an application engineer to play a key role in supporting enterprise-level applications. Core activities include performing installs, upgrades, patches, administration of PeopleSoft applications, and supporting the application development groups with any systems related issues. Additional activities will include DevOps responsibilities with PeopleSoft and many other enterprise applications. This role is responsible for delivering high quality service to Time Inc’s growing global business.
Perform PeopleSoft installs and upgrades.
Support and manage multiple software applications through the full development life cycle, including standards, reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operational production support.
Work with various IT groups (such as operations, networking, hardware administration, etc.), to implement system integrations as well as troubleshoot production issues.
Translate business requirements into technical specifications with an emphasis toward highly available and scalable global solutions.
Engage with vendors to implement new products, upgrade product versions, research and resolve issues.
Work independently and/or with a team (either inside or outside of our Business Systems) depending on the initiative.
Prioritize competing demands, scope large efforts and negotiate timelines.
Quickly learn, install, and maintain new software.
Communicate and organize effectively across functional and technical lines.
A bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of professional experience as a System Engineer, System Administrator, or Application Engineer.
A minimum of 3 years of experience administering PeopleSoft applications; in-depth, hands on experience performing at least one major application and PeopleTools upgrade, and experience in setting up and applying patches/images using PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) preferred.
Experience in scripting (Perl, shell) and an object-oriented programming language such as Java, C or C++ is preferred.
Exposure/experience with DevOps, Chef, ImageNow, FICO Blaze Advisor, Dell Stat (change control), Autosys (CA Workload Automation) would be a plus.
