PEOPLE is seeking a New York-based writer/reporter to contribute to the Human Interest and Sports verticals for digital (PEOPLE.com) and print (on occasion, as needed). The ideal candidate will have a love of news and pop culture with a specific focus on human interest stories: remarkable acts of heroism, family loss and triumph, loves lost, gained and rediscovered, incredible tales of survival and overcoming tragedy and ordeal—in short, stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. The ideal candidate is a strong writer with a knack for finding, reporting and writing these untold stories, and crafting strong headlines and eye-catching social media posts.
Work hand-in-hand with senior editors in executing a strategy for daily content

Find the stories PEOPLE.com needs to be posting before other sites get there
Write and produce at least 5 news posts and/or galleries daily, helping to drive the widest possible audience to the material
Write and package content that cuts across news, human interest and sports (as needed)
Develop new and creative ways to cover stories via posts, galleries, video and social
Proven: You have a Bachelor's degree and three to five years of experience as a writer, preferably in the digital space.
A digital-savvy writer: You’re a journalist’s journalist—armed with strong writing skills and solid news judgment. You come with a clear perspective on emerging content channels and a track record of creating fun and addictive web content. You know your way around Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat (among others) when it comes to reporting breaking news and searching for story ideas. And you have experience developing and maintaining social media feeds.
Collaborative, quick and prolific: You can craft a well-written story quickly and accurately, whether it’s an aggregated piece or using fresh reporting. You thrive in fast-paced environments—and have a proven track record when it comes to reporting and writing on deadline. One of your core talents is finding and breaking news stories, as well as coming up with clever follows. You’re comfortable working at a speedy pace—whether independently or collaboratively alongside a team. You’re competitive, performance-driven, and have a familiarity with digital analytics.
