The People.com Features Editor will be responsible for working with the Lifestyle Director and related verticals (home, food, travel, parents, style, relationships and health) to create original, longer-form and reported stories to supplement our current slate of news-focused editorial content.
Generate lifestyle-focused stories for People’s website with an eye to SEO and performance on social media.
Conceive of types of content not currently being produced for People (features-y, voice-y) and design a promotion plan to execute them successfully
Use your news judgment, as well as your understanding of search and social trends, to inform the types of stories you will execute
Work with the Lifestyle Director and related vertical editors to create an editorial calendar, then assign and edit submitted content
Be a “generalist” easily able to pivot across different verticals and different types of content
Three to five years experience at a national magazine or website.
Strong writing and line-editing skills, with experiencing pitching and assigning.
A strong sense of self-direction, able to execute content without a significant amount of hand-holding, and the ability to work both long-term and on tight deadlines.
An interest in “lifestyle” topics (and the ability to write on a variety of subjects) as well as a knowledge of celebrity/pop-culture, to help best reach the People audience.
