The Role
Third Harmonic Bio is seeking a Director, Medicinal Chemistry to join us in our aim to become a leading small molecule company in the inflammation and immunology space. The successful candidate will partner with the VP, Medicinal Chemistry, support and execute on the company’s vision for Medicinal Chemistry and collaborate in supporting cross-functional project teams. Seeking an individual who is driven to advancing the next wave of medicines to meaningfully improve the lives of patients.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the VP, Medicinal Chemistry, implement and execute medicinal chemistry strategies to deliver high quality clinical candidates
- Support the scaling of the function including hiring medicinal chemists, setting goals, managing priorities and budgets
- Participate in Scientific Review Committee overseeing nonclinical projects
- Help direct chemistry team(s) at contract research site(s); possess in depth knowledge of medicinal chemistry and the drug discovery process, including lead optimization and DC nomination
- Apply data visualization technologies and techniques to interrogate drug properties
- Facilitate cross-functional relationships by establishing strong collaborations across company including other nonclinical disciplines participating in project teams
- Apply different modalities of drug design (e.g., fragment screening, DNA encoded libraries, structure based) where appropriate
- Prepare high impact presentations for internal and external communication
- Support IP process, including status analysis, patent filing strategy and application.
- Perform portfolio and stage-gate reviews, lead the preparation and presentation of dossiers for discovery candidate nomination and compound advancement
- Apply synthetic chemistry knowledge to drive compound design toward successful project progression and candidate drug delivery, assist the development of strategic, scientific, and technical strategies.
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in synthetic organic or medicinal chemistry with 7-10 years post-doctoral experience in biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry
- Medicinal Chemistry expert with working understanding of biology, pharmacology, DMPK and toxicology and ability to integrate data from these disciplines to drive SAR
- Experience working on cross-functional teams including an appreciation of the role of other disciplines in drug discovery
- Demonstrated strong track record in medicinal chemistry as evidenced by successful advancement of drug discovery projects to clinical candidate nomination
- Work in a hybrid environment with office presence 3 days a week
- Desire to be part of a growing organization
- Great partnership skills and experience working in dynamic multidisciplinary environment
- Extensive experience using external CRO’s for project execution
- Track record of scientific excellence including patents, scientific publications and presentations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to manage by influence and problem solve in a matrixed organization
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working on kinase inhibitor drug discovery
- Experience leading cross functional project teams
The approximate salary range for this role is: $194,000 - $220,000
