We are seeking a Public Health Principal / Consultant to join our Public Health team. 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

You'll join PHC’s Public Health team consisting of epidemiologists, infectious disease physicians, and public health professionals. This team works closely with other PHC teams (including Client Services, Data Science, Engineering, and Product Development) to co-create and implement various services for PHC clients. In parallel, the Public Health team contributes content expertise to PHC’s software platform that leverages artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and genomic epidemiology, to predict, detect, and contain communicable diseases.

In this role you will help our clients in the private and public sectors solve their most pressing problems by gathering and analyzing information, formulating and testing hypotheses, and developing and communicating recommendations to senior client stakeholders. In rare cases, you may be asked to travel to a client site.

You will be part of the early team at PHC building the future of the biosecurity and disease surveillance field. Modern data streams (genomic, mobility, search, social, etc) combined with modern computational techniques and a client-focused approach allow us to democratize public health and empower private- and public-sector institutions to proactively manage bio-threats and maintain operational continuity.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Structuring ambiguous problems and taking action to solve them
  • Synthesizing complex and ambiguous information (including policies, procedures, regulations, and scientific data) into clear takeaways and recommendations using both qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Working effectively with diverse teams to come up with the best solution and paths to achieve positive impact
  • Establishing trust-based relationships with clients to better serve their organizations 
  • Crafting professional written communications and presentations for expert and non-expert audiences
  • Educating and orienting new staff to internal and client-facing processes
  • Working with all levels within PHC, including executive leadership to bring high-performing, actionable insights to our clients

REQUIREMENTS

Technical

  • Advanced degree in a health or disease-related field (e.g., MD, PhD, MS, MPH)
  • Capability to drive an independent workstream in the context of a broader team project
  • Ability to simultaneously engage in multiple projects involving high technical complexity
  • Comfort with ambiguous and continually-changing situations and ability to creatively solve problems on the fly
  • Proven ability to break down and solve problems through logical thinking and quantitative analysis
  • Ability to make decisions and drive initiatives to completion in an organized manner
  • Strong technology and data analysis skills (ability to efficiently curate and manipulate large data sets, work in G-suite applications, and leverage additional subject matter specific applications)

Interpersonal

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with an emphasis on the ability to explain scientific and statistical concepts clearly
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and create an inclusive environment with people at all levels of an organization
  • Proven ability to manage expectations with the leadership team, and internal / external stakeholders
  • Experience working with an external stakeholder (either collaborator or client) on a infectious disease mathematical modeling project

NICE TO HAVE

  • Strong knowledge of reportable diseases, treatment, and management algorithms
  • Expertise in managing population health, investigating disease outbreaks, and / or communicable disease prevention and control
