The Infatuation is growing, and we’re looking for a skilled editor to oversee our Philadelphia market. If you’re right for this role, you are passionate about Philly and its diverse landscape of neighborhoods and restaurants, but you’re even more passionate about editing, managing, and mentoring talented writers.
We're seeking an experienced editor, who is ideally also familiar with our publication. The kind of editor who can spot a misplaced comma in their sleep, but who really thrives on developing structure, voice, and tone will excel in this role. You should be excited to work in partnership with our writers on their reviews and guides, hashing out their ideas and finding the perfect phrase together. You will also be responsible for running calendar meetings and brainstorms with the larger editorial strategy in mind. In other words, this is not red-line, transactional editing. Our editors and writers work in partnership with one another.
Ideally, we are looking for an editor with managerial experience. This person should already be comfortable running team meetings, managing direct reports, and setting short and long-term expectations for individual writers and the larger Philadelphia editorial strategy. It is important that this candidate is committed to fostering the writers’ professional development and an inclusive working environment.
You might be perfect for this role if you:
- Have previous editing experience. You’re comfortable diving into a piece of writing and know how to give constructive feedback to writers.
- Have management experience. You've ideally overseen small, diverse teams and will be comfortable having writers report to you.
- Possess excellent copy-editing and fact-checking skills. You love grammar and would lose sleep over a missing comma or a misspelled menu item.
- Are passionate about restaurants, and Philadelphia. You're the kind of person who plans trips around what you're going to eat, and you're the friend in the group who picks the restaurant.
- Understand the Infatuation voice and brand, and know we don’t use words like “foodie” or “nestled” or “toothsome.” You’ve read our reviews and guides, and hopefully you’ve used The Infatuation to find a great restaurant.
What you'd do in this role:
- Edit every review, guide, newsletter, and social caption for The Infatuation Philly.
- Research and fact check the historical and cultural context of various cuisines, dishes, and neighborhoods.
- Hire and manage a team of diverse writers in Philadelphia.
- Own and strategize the Editorial Calendar with a commitment to expanding and diversifying our coverage, both in terms of neighborhoods and cuisine.
- Facilitate weekly calendar meetings and brainstorms.
- Act as a liaison between the writers and editorial leadership.
